A little surprised this hasn’t been discussed here yet. So I’m lobbing this one out there.
For those of you who don’t understand why “Its Hard Out here for a Pimp” won an oscar, you need to see “Hustle and Flow” to put it in context.
Not having seen or heard any of the other musical pieces nominated, its hard for me to judge whether or not this song was the best of the crop. But the song is an excellent fit for the movie and it does voice the main character, a pimp, quite nicely.
So that movie had professional rap artists making the songs? They were DECENT, but not really hit-single-worthy. Guess I don’t like Three 6 Mafia very much.
