So I’m driving through the drive-thru at said Tim Horton’s. I pick up my phone to fish for change in my center console as it was sitting on top of the console.
Tim Horton’s girl comes to window and screams “DON’T DO THAT!”
Me: “Do what?”
TH: “Text!”
Me: “(insert k.niland yelling voice) I’m not, I’m trying to get some change! Why are you screaming at me?”
TH: “The town of Hamburg installed a camera that watches the drive-thru, they’ve been ticketing anyone coming through the line.”
I get it, the whole hands free thing, but can they really put a camera in the parking lot like that? I couldn’t see anything on the side of the building but does anyone else know about this?
I don’t see why not… they have cameras everywhere else.
As far as the town watching the tim horton’s drive-thru for snky snky texters?? That doesn’t seem likely, but I guess anything is possible.
But you’re technically on a private lot, and if you’re at the window waiting then you’re not even driving… so would it even be illegal to text at that point?
The texting law is a secondary law. That basically means you can’t just get a ticket for texting, you have to get a ticket for something else first. So they can’t set up a camera with the sole purpose of catching texters. And XJ Knight is right, it doesn’t go into effect until the first of the year. Chick was definitely fucking with you.
I’m willing to bet that you can get a DWI in a parking lot, so long as you’re over the limit & behind the wheel with the keys.

yea, but you can’t get a ticket for talking on your cell phone while in a parking lot, thats what they want you to do lol. if you;re pulled over drunk as fuck you’re obviously going to get a dwi/ticket. your car can be on, you just cant be moving while talking on your cell phone. with DWI as long as you’re drunk, and have your keys with you/in ignition/in hand then you had “intentions” of driving. i may be wrong about the dwi, but i know im right on the phone part

spending all that time and money on installing / operating a traffic camera for the sake of monitoring a single driveway at a specific business for TEXTERS ?
nah … not enough profit in that
so im sure they monitor that driveway for speeders , swervers, people that dont signal when they come around the building, and for people that brake to fast at the window.
if your gonna target a specific business drive through, you might as well do it with an iron fist
if the keys are in the glovebox, your ticketed.
basically, you have to be drunk in the front seat, car off, keys in the backseat in order for you to not get a dwi.
your best bet, would be for you to have the keys under the back seat, while sleeping in the trunk.
but honestly, if you can afford a night of over paying greatly for drinks in a bar or place to eat, you can afford to not drive home drunk.
