tire choice?

need some new tires soon, i want something that will look maybe bigger then what i am running. i have 255/40/17 bridgestones. i know falkens run bigger then most other tires of the same size

tire choices right now

falken 615 - 255/40/17

falken 615 - 245/45/17

go with the 255

thats what i was leaning towards. i think the overall size of the falkens in 255 will be larger then the bridgestones in 255. at least thats what i noticed with 205 azenis compared to other 205s

I run the 255/40 17 on my stock evo wheels 8.0" width.

Have the tires loose in my basement right now if you need to do any further measurments or anything…

Jeller

you running falkens right now or are they sitting in your basement? i have 255/40/17 on my stock bbs now but i want a bigger looking 255 plus these are wearing fast

Here is a pic of them for you.

I am Still on snows( on stock wheels) till the new wheels come in. I have my falkens off the stockers right now.

they look pretty good. looks like a little more meat on the sidewalls then my bridgestones. thats why i considered the 245/45 for more sidewall.

Yeah, they are not bad, I think either tire is going to look fine.

Another thought… the 245/45 has a reinforced sidewall and weighs 28.7lbs where are the 255/40 is 27.5 and non-reinforced sidewall…?

Jeller

Kevin why do you want to stay with a 255 that “looks” better. The stock RE070’s are a damn nice tire. Just curious…

i though stock was a 225 is a 255 going to rub?

stock are re070 in 225, i have re050 in 255. the tires i have are 280 a piece. i dont want to spend that right now.

jeller are the 45s reinforced sidewall because its taller?

did you not read i have been running 255s

I am not sure… may have to do with the load rating. hard to figure out the reason when looking at the charts here http://www.falkentire.com/#/Tires/Motorsports/

Jeller

falken does not recommend running a 255/40/17 on 17x8 but they do recommend the 245/45/17.

the 255/4/17 are designed for a 8.5 -10.5 inch wheel with a OD of 25.0 inches and the 345/40/17 is designed for a 7.5 -9 inch wheel with a larger OD of 25.6 inches.

also to answer the reinforced question.

“Reinforced” does not mean that the sidewalls are literally reinforced with more material, but rather is a designator that a given size has been rated to take 6 PSI more (36 PSI goes to 42 PSI), allowing assignment of a higher load index. It has similar meaning to “Extra Load

Assuming your going with the 245/45 then? I have not had any issues with my 255’s … and I know there are tons of evo guys running them. I think my 255’s show a higher max psi rating than normal on them, now that you remind me. I have no issues with wear at all, my alignment is settings are very stock though too, due to the amount of driving I do.

i have 255/40s on now but im going to go to a 245/45 with a larger OD.
