I can’t express how greateful I am to have such a community of quality people such as ours. I really respect how the organizers of these events are trying so hard to bring the sport of drifting off the ground, making it accessible to both experienced and beginners alike. And though our numbers are few for now, it’s actually good in that it makes us tighter, and thus more supportive of each other.
Reading up on the drift scenes of Japan, Australia, and the southern states, I’m always impressed by how everyone interacts with each other, with the fun that they have, and how proud they are to be doing what they love; like it’s a big sports camp or something. Yesterday finally felt like that (for me) for the first time this year. And though it’s a start, it can only get better.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that the people you saw yesterday are just as passionate about drifting as you are. This is our group. These are the people that will either make or break the drift scene in Ontario. And the more we interact and support each other, the more we’ll grow in skill and numbers. it’s great that we swap tires and parts online, but maybe we can begin to swap advice, helpful criticism, or new information that can make us all better, especially those who are just starting out. (The advice Sasha and Alex gave me at my first-ever drift event in Grand Bend still helps me today). This month’s issue of Drifting Magazine explains it best:
“South Australia is a quiet place, yet the culture and structure of the drift scene there is somewhat unique in the Australian context. There is a good structure within the state for nurturing younger drivers while pushing the elite driver to their limits, ensuring the standard of locally based drifting continues to rise.” Oct 2006, Vol 2, No 4; pg. 56
Anyways, I’m not sure how this got so long, or why I’m writing this. I hope it doesn’t sound gay or retarded. I’m just really excited to be a part of something that is about to explode into something great. I hope someone out there feels that same way…
Leo, that was some deep stuff man. Well said and i totally agree with you. No one seemed overly cocky yesterday and everyone was totally willing to lend tools and etc. I would be more than happy to help anyone with tires and setting up their car if i was done. Thats how things grow. If it was your first time, don’t be shy to introduce yourself. Sometimes people are so busy doing their own thing they kind of zone out (which is what i did since i havn’t gone to an event for 3months, this being my 2nd time). But i would love to see this community grow and act as a family and then take on bigger and better things in the future.
Good event, had a lot more track time until sound level got in the way. But I learned a lot more and made significant improvement at this event. Running counterclockwise was a good idea. In the beginning I couldn’t hold the drifts for corner 1,2,3. By the end of the day, corners 1,2,3 became one solid single drift :D.
Now… I want pics and video!! I want to see what it looks like to see a 350Z go through corner 1,2,3 in one non-stop drift.
We would like to thank everyone for coming out yet again for another great day for drifting. We have built ourselves a tight little community that only gets bigger from each event. I see a lot of familiar faces everytime which is great, but I want to see some new faces as well.
The next event will be a big one. We don’t have a specific date as of yet, but it will be at the end of October, most likely at Shannonville; and most likely FULL DAY (9-5). Drivers from Quebec will be invited, so we need to show them what we’re made of. All of that info will be posted shortly.
Again, thanks to everyone who has supported us and we hope you had fun.
And if you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask.
i’ll try and be at teh next event and go balls to teh wall since my car will be done racingfor the season i can maybe try and find some decent wheels and tires to go balls to the wall with!
