To say I want one is an understatement. I want to put a heli license in my wallet sometime before I die but it’s so goddamn expensive as a private pilot, and renting a heli makes renting a single prop look like a trip to the dollar store.

Have you ever looked into the ultralights? I know typically they are plane/glider design basically but I believe they have heli designs as well.

Sometime in my life I will go on a glider or an ultralight…

I thoughtvabout building an autogyro a few times. Plenty of space to fly up here, cheap, and far more reliable/safe.

Can these small helicopters auto rotate in case of a failure?

Personally something with wings that can glide feels a lot safer, plus can reach altitudes to just jump with the parachute, although granted landing areas are more limited.
