so today I went my a auto shop and had some question one of them was I need power steering fluid and one of the mechanic it is too expensive and can use tranny fluid instead what do you guy think about that advice :?:
One question mark will suffice.
they are basically the same thing…ur fine to run tranny fluid as power steering fluid dont worry about it

IcEee
i had it in my power steering for a year…nothing ever made a noise pwer steering ran 100%…i have never had any sort of problems with my car

great good to know was wondering what year is ur car? and if it is possible does a 1989 240sx have ABS? i need to know for new brakes and rotor etc.
my cars are a 89 and 91…and u 89 from my knowledge more than likely doesnt have abs…look in ur dash if it says antilock where it has the seatbelt light and check engine light then yes u have abs…or do under hood look at the brake master cylinder…the huge thing on ur firewall infront of the drivers side follow the lines to the passenger…if they go to another round box type thing then that is ur abs actuater and u have abs…if the lines just go along the wall then under the car(one goes into strut tower for front brakes) then no u dont have abs
i;ll take a look tomorrow i just bought da car so i would like to have does thing done new rotors brakes oil plugs etc. another question what are some normal problem you have had with ur 89 s13… and my car is 275.XXX km and is there any thing i should change at the hight clicks? or be aware of?
well basically…make sure the engine always has oil if it burns anything
other little things that become big are…look at ur lines in ur car…brake lines gas line etc…on a 17 year old car these things are completely rotted out…make sure they wont burst…in 2 months i had 2 brake lines blow on me leaving me with no brakes…certain areas to check for the lines are where the line goes into the strut tower(mosture builds up here causing it to rust) and everywhere underneath the car
some more things are make sure there are no holes in ur floors obvouisly…do a tune up if the wires look bad, get plugs wires and cap…oh yeah just remembered this one…if the timing chain sounds bad u could need a new one or new chain gaurds these wear over time, ur clutch is a huge thing if its standered
oh and as for rust…it does have 275 XXXkm’s on it…open the hood look at the strut towers do they have rust? if so then grind rust down and paint it with rust paint from canadian tire, this rust will spread fast and make ur strut towers weak…
oh some more stuff…check for any exhaust manifold leaks or and vacume leaks, these will leave u with bad idle/gas mileage, and u might aswell replace ur filter…this might seam like alot of shit but alot of it is making sure ur protected from breaking down, or blowing a brake line and rear ending someone
well i want to get the car goin and going with now problem down the line. i would like to do as much change as possible when it comes to lines. i was thinking to have all the line change but it is have to find oem line for the s13. there are some post of line for sale but i need to take alook at then. one day i was watching tv and there was line available it is flexable and it had a metal protection i was think if getting those but not too sure where to get then in mississauga. and i do want to change all my line the owner b4 me had the fuel line change but they did a very very very bad job and used a rubber hose which i don;t really like but it is working fine for now. also my frame is in bad shape well at too side i need to get it cut and add a new 1 on is that a smart move or is there any thing i can do to enforce the frame?.. and it is in very bad shap rotten tru so it seems
The S13 is meant to use Dexxron III (AT Fluid) for power steering fluid.
thanks for you input axlerod another question would a 1990 or 1991 stock rim fit on a 1989 240sx?
yes. any 4 x 114.3 will fit the 240s… it just depends on the offest…
91 and 89 … it’s the same
of course its ment to run something but that doesnt mean that running tranny fluid is gonna hurt it…its basically the same compounds
