I just got a WS9(Ws6 replica) hood and my SLP airlid is stopping it from fitting correctly. The elbow where it meets the MAF seems to be stopping it from closing correctly. I read on some LS1 boards that the SLP lid rubs on some peoples hoods. Do any of you guys run a WS6 hood with an aftermarket lid. If so, which one and does it rub the hood?
Thanks,
Brandon
I have a MTI lid on mine and I have no problems whatsoever…just the passenger side clip pops off every once and a while.
Im looking at MTI ones right now. They dont seem to raise up as high as slp.
See pic of SLP in link below and notice how high it is. Does yours look like this?

for the most part yes…here is a pic of my engine bay
another thing about the MTI i noticed is the seal adhesive pulls away from the plastic(look closely on the pic)…its really annoying. but its still a good lid. also, i saw an article where it said the MTI performs the best. the fitment, however i couldnt tell you on that hood.
Ya I read in a lid shootout…most were very close and the MTI yielded 8 rwhp
yes, most power, but track results was SLPs hoood
i need a set of them there fuel rail covers!
good luck with your fitment… i have the FIPK, and its nothing like any of the lids, so i can’t help ya out there…
TSP lid here with no problems at all.
im thinking of getting the TSP 85mm lid for the car now…my buddy wants to buy my lid
mti lid FTW i bought the first one that smokey has now !! also had another rubber seal around it and also roughed up and glued the seal still pops off at the same place
over all good product though
Thanks for all of your suggestions. I got a pic from a company of the whisper lid next to the SLP and it is definitely shorter than mine. It may work. I wish I could get a pic of a TSP at this angle it would really help me decide.
2002SilverWS6 would you have any pics of your lid at this angle.
Thanks.
No pics but a buddy of mine had the slp and it rubbed real bad that’s why I bought the one from TSP. When I bought it 3 years ago it was a brand new design that solved all the fitment issues.
sorta off topic,
how does the new hood look?
pretty good. Just got it back today. Im gonna run around with it black for a week or two to help cure it then off to paint.
looks good. im kinda jealous of those teardrops. i wish the factory ws6 hood had those. also , as always, i love the Smoothie II’s on that car
Agreed…but I loved you old hood as well.
bics, I love the superhawk hood too and am having a tough time debating whether I want to sell it or have 2 hoods. It is kinda pointless to have 2 but it was the last superhawk Roger at US Exotics made and it is sexy. :boink
I know I could get a nice penny for it on Ebay but there are some locals who have showed interest too.
What made you want to switch? I would be perfectly happy with it if I had it
Its a long story but to sum it up the Superhawk had some problems with the fiberglass. Roger(US Exotics) gave me the option of paying to have my superhawk sanded and repainted or he would send me a WS9, since he no longer makes the superhawk. I chose to go with the WS9 cause I love the nostrils and heat extractors.
So if I sell it, its not really a problem for the buyer because if they dont have a red car they will have it sanded and repainted to the color of their choice. And actually it is not even that bad if someone wanted it for a red car and didnt want to fix it. I would have to point out to you the problem in order for you to know what it was. But I would never try to sell it without pointing it out.
