Treatment for mass (~150gal) water storage

I have a summer place on the lake that has well water. Last summer we had a number of weekends that we ran out of water (number of places on the same water table, with separate wells). So I bought a couple 250 gallon water totes (look like this https://www.ntotank.com/275gallon-nto-white-reconditioned-ibc-tote-tank-x7738445?gclid=CjwKEAjw3pTJBRChgZ3e7s_YhAkSJAASG9VrapZ3GA7CwNjyW7bEky0Ud7SREliCcdVAcyfpIZ_CTRoCuNrw_wcB) to store water in.

I’m going to have it setup feeding into a shallow well pump so that I can shut off and valve off my well pump and valve in the shallow well pump feeding out of these totes.

I have the totes sitting in a shaded area, but they are still out in the open. They will be filled with tap water at my house, and transported to the cottage.

My question is, should I be concerned with generating flesh eating bacteria? Anything I should do for treatment? The water will not be used for drinking, but will be used for showering, washing dishes, etc.

Anyone have experience? From my quick search, it sounds like I should be fine with using tap water. If there is concern, adding a couple ounces of bleach should take care of it, but I’m still a bit weary.

It might be overkill but a UV system will kill pretty much anything in it. It basically goes in-line with your main water pipe (before it splits) and will disinfect as water goes through it.

I’m not sure on initial install cost but they seem pretty simple to install (we have one on our well and was there when we bought the house). The bulb needs to be changed yearly (might be less in your case) and is about $100.

Bleach would probably work assuming you can keep it diluted enough where you don’t have to deal with the smell and skin irritation.

How do you plan on moving those? 250*8=2000lbs

Barge

I bought 2. One stays there hooked up. The second is the transport that goes from home to the cottage. When I’m there, I pump the transport one into the stationary one with a utility pump. I have a trailer to carry the transport one, strapped down with some industrial ratchet straps.

I’d suggest only transporting it full or empty. 1000lbs shifting around inside a half full tank could get ugly.

Or make sure to film it while it’s 1/2 full. Could be entertaining
