Unfortunately I blew the turbo on my Cavy last week. I’ve ordered a rebuild kit for it but am wondering if anyone knows of anyplace local who does turbo balancing?
I have nothing down in my area (Corning/Elmira) but was wondering if anyone here might have any ideas?
It’s a garrett t60-1, I thought about a diesel shop as well but we don’t have anything around here locally. I know a few places I can send it out to in CA but was hoping someone might know something local. Thanks for the help thus far, i’m just trying to get this thing back together asap!
The only diesel shop I know of around here that touches Garrett and might be able to do it is D&W Diesel. We deal with them a decent amount. There a good place to deal with.
They have a shop in Buffalo and Auburn. Thats all I can think of.
Unfortunately i’ve had the turbo for a bit over a year now so the warranty is up… the turbo only has about 600 miles on it but this is my fault as I used too small of an oil restrictor on the turbo back in the spring giving it an oil starvation issue. I was just hoping to get through the season with it and rebuild it over the winter but I just didn’t quite make it.
It’s definately the journal bearings and seals. The wheels both are in perfect shape. I’m shooting for 450whp + the engine is fully built and stroked out to a 2.6L.
The tranny is custom… It’s an NVG t550 transmission w/ a torsen LSD… No one really has solid numbers on what the trannies hold but GM used them in their old “Rocket” program on their quad 4 race cars and they are pretty difficult to locate. I think they made like 700 total with an LSD.
d&w in auburn has balanced 4 different turbos for me and done a very good job. They are cheap too, they just charge shop rate which iirc came out to around 40-60 each time for me. Turn around time for every one was one day
Haha Thanks for the help guys… I’m going to give D&W a call today. I’d really like to have the car back in action asap so I can hit the track before it closes
if you make sure the wheels and nut are lined up the same way they were when you took it apart it will not need to be rebalanced since you didnt change the shaft or wheels.
Yup, also if you check a little into who built your turbo find out if the wheel and shaft are balanced separately, One way you can tell is if you see little ground out parts on your nut, if not then it was probably balanced individually which means you would not need to rebalance it unless it was warn too much when it was blown.
Also, I thought mike at innovative does shaft banlences doesnt he??
