turbo rebuild question

ok my stock garret from 1988 that i got off someone used finally decided it had enough and started smoking out the exhaust do to the seal going bad. just ordered a rebuild kit and was wondering since this turbo was balanced from the factory if i could just take off the housings and mark both wheels so i can put them back together at the same spot they were and not have to send it out to get rebalanced. im very tight on money so would like to not have to do this. if i need to get it rebalanced is there anywhere local that has the capability to do this or does it need to be sent out somewhere? thanks.

the turbine and compressor wheels are pre-balanced, so you dont have to rebalance it if you swap wheels… so no need to mark them.

dude do you have a good stage 3 t3 turbine wheel/shaft i can buy off you for another turbo i have?

I might… you do know you’ll need the housing as well to match the wheel.

yeah this is for a whole other turbo i have that needs rebuilt.

I didn’t see it today, so it must be gone. All you have to do is buy one of those chinese t3/t4’s on ebay, they have a garrett cartridge, so you can use the back housing, wheel and shaft.

i had one of these laying around at one point and it and my turbonetics that were blown both had stage 3 wheels but the cheapo had a different number of blades on the turbine, don’t know if that has any reason if the wheel would be shity quality compared to a real garrett wheel though

The one chinese turbo I saw had the same, identical wheel as a turbonetics I just got done spending 900$ on. That made me angry :stuck_out_tongue:

Doesn’t mean they’re made the same

Im sure your right, I just don’t see how they could be that different after seeing them next to eachother. Whoever wants to play with that fire, be my guest
