hey guys i was looking at some write ups on how to properly rebuild a turbo, and some of them say the turbine (exhaust side) wheel needs to be balanced AFTER being assembled, i dont understand that. if anyone knows i’d be glad to be informed
other side, the compressor needs to be reblanced, the turbine impeller is one pc with the shaft. At 120,000 rpm, even a fraction of a mg out of balance will destroy a compressor impeller.
If you have a Txx garrett turbo then you can do the chra rebuild yourself, however you will still need to get it balanced… and the HS balancers are few and far between in Ontario. best bet is after it’s rebuilt take it to a deisel shop and get them to send it out for balancing. Or if you know of a local turbo rebuilder then take it in yourself.
There are a few turbo balancers in Toronto area.
PM me if you want the name of the shop I go to.
