I don’t know much about rebuilding, but I believe they are supposed to be balanced after rebuilt? I’m sure a bit of shimmy would cause catastrophic failure very fast.

those come with them as well, yes the turbo is sopose to be balanced, so when u take the compressor wheel off you need to mark it and the shaft so u put it on the same was it came off,
i rebuild my turbo, no problems yet, although if it fails hello gt40r or bigger

um, well

a: most likely a bad turbo will distort the main shaft, making rebuilding it useless. You’ll have to make for sure its still round and doesn’t have any diameter variations.

b: The “wheel” is balanced, not the whole thing. I’ve swapped out wheels 2-3 times before and the turbo never changed its beat.

well i found a .60/.63 from a Merker a kid offered me for $100.

which is the same size that i am running, however, the exhaust flanges are different. is it possiblt to just swap the exhaust housing on the 2 turbos to make it work with my flanges?

a garrett based turbo you can swap them. Are you talking about the “t3” flange where it bolts to the manifold?

the whole thing is spin balanced…thus the size of the nuts so they can balance the assembly through grinding the nut. you can’t really balance the wheel by taking material off of it you balance the assembly

yea.
