After only a few months of boosting, my AGP RS60T (Turbonetics 60-1/T31 setup with a Bullseye exhaust housing) took a dump on me. Car started smoking like a freight train, so I took it home. My enitre garage filled with a blueish smoke, and smelled like burnt oil. After a few other tests, I yanked the turbo off. Oil came out of the exhaust housing, and smelled horribly like burnt oil. I also noticed some roughness on the compressor wheel, and saw some nicks/roughness in the compressor cover.
Looks like AGP is going to take care of me though (the turbo is still under warranty,) and I should get it back relatively soon, and I’ll be selling it and going with (probably) a ball bearing setup of some sort. Possibly the PTE SCM61 BB, but I haven’t decided. I’d go FP 3065 if I had the extra money to burn, but for the cost I can buy an SCM61 and a JM Fabrications sheet metal intake manifold.
Actually, it’s been running really well up until this. I saw as much as 49lbs/min of airflow, but wasn’t using all of it.
I think the last time it was really in-and-out of working right was when I was trying to get the vacuum pump to work right a few months back and kept blowing fuses. Other than that, it was just some little issues like tuning and buying/welding on an external wastegate. I drove it every day to West Mifflin (25 miles round trip) and around town here until the turbo died. (Mileage isn’t insanely high, I know. Just using it for reference.)
I’m over at the Performance Standard on 30 every now and then. I know the guy (Vince) so I stop to bullshit with them decently often. If you see my car parked there (it’s almost right across the street from GetGo) stop by and say hi.
because of the size of the center shaft with a ball bearing turbo they’re really not designed at this point in time to accept any wheels larger than the 35r setup. the shaft becomes too weak with the stress of the larger wheels and in “testing” tends to develope stress cracking and breaking.
Maybe, but his “non-ball bearing” center section already shit itself after only a few months also. And honestly do you really think he would need to go any larger than a GT35R? They’ve pushed quite a few full weight EVO’s into the 10’s. :dunno:
