Turbo Question

is it possible to pull too much oil from the return side of a turbo?? I have that pump to put it back into my valve covers, but i think it is pulling too much on the turbo and causing the seals to leak some

yes

what can i do to reduce it you think??? or i need to find something smaller than a differential pump

i bet his turbdo’s return sits lower than where he returns…?

I dont know how too much suction can cause oil to push past the seal. It should actually be good for it.

If you had too little suction and the oil was backing up in the turbo, then it could get pushed out the seal.

i dont know WTF it’s prob is. i hate it!

umm chad…i highly doubt that its the pump pulling oil through the seals…

how much oil we talking here …

deep breath calm…it will be ahwile before you get all the bugs worked out…

do you have a ristor in the feed lines??? it may be pumping to much from the feed into the turbo…put up a post on turbomustangs and see of they use restriotors

hate to say but i cant say it enough its allways better to start with new turbos…

yeah i have restrictors…

How much oil?? decent amount of smoke, a few drops of oil out the bottom downpipe bolt

where these new turbos or is these the same rebuilt./…remember that one had small crack in the exhaust side…

dripping out the DP? thats not good…

The oil restrictors are perfect, it has to be oil backing up in the turbo. Is there anyway to remove the end of the drain and then run the car so you can see how much oil is physically coming out?

we’re gonna remove the line and see how much that the pump is pulling.

Spangs, they are both PROFESSIONALLY rebuilt. the one i had to reuse housings though… ill look and see what housing i used. i have about 4 of them

Here is what i got from a guy on turbo mustangs

Ummm Nope… It may not be draining them enough and causing oil to back up into them allowing it to over run the seals and out to the exhaust. If they are mounted really low I would use a 1 quart sump tank allowing the turbos to drain into that then use the pump to drain that. This should allow a decent amount oil oil buildup in the sump then when there is enough it will shoot it to the valve cover. I’ve seen this happen quite a few times, and the sump is usually the cure. But sometimes a vaccume pump will also cure this problem. If there is enough internal pressure that pump will not pump oil anywhere until you let off the throttle. Do you have breathers on your valve covers?

that would be a idea

talk to jeff

im admiging like an oil tank from a chopper modified

that’s what i said too… more or less.

ok then sump tank it is i guess

wtf quote
