Anyone have a good way to clean up, tweak, speed up, etc. Windows XP?
Its my work laptop so I need a free way to do so but just have been running the same OS for over a year and some things seem sluggish and it might be due to all the software I have installed and uninstalled.

start -> run -> msconfig.exe -> Tab over to startup items and click “Disable all” -> Tab over to services, check “Hide microsoft services”, then click “Disable all” -> Reboot and enjoy
Cool except a lot of my work software uses services.
Just figure out what services they use and keep those enabled. If you have any problems with software it should give an error with the service it needs and you can just go back in and turn it on.
I am looking more for like registry cleanup, unused file cleanup, etc.

Format. Why spend 4 hours fucking around when you could spend 2 hours and do it right? Unless it’s something like a work computer that you’re not allowed to format…
2 hours to install Windows and then how many more installing apps, doing updates, etc… From the sounds of it, it’s more like 6 hours…
Updates are for pussies.
Not really an option. I have local admin rights but lots of licensed software that I need keys for and specific settings which will be a PITA to get.
