I love taking roadtrips, so yeah, I care about MPG. Recently picked up an E46 325i and have been pleasantly surprised with 35mpg @ 75mph on the highway, something that I never really realized prior to purchse. Got me to thinking, what other cars out there throw down some pretty decent mpg numbers, unexpectedly, while still being enjoyable cars to drive?
Corvettes
ill tell you what cars surprisingly do terrible, my dads new impala gets like 18 mpg avg after 10k miles, and my moms 4 cyl new malibu gets 21 after 5100, talk about shit fuckin gas mileage
x2 on corvettes, like 25-30 if driven normally
24 to 26 @ 75 in my GTO. I’ve always been happy with that.
A-lot of the Audi’s… My evo 2.0t AWD got a best of 22mpg on the high way, when i moved into a 1.8t Audi A4 I was expecting the same but every road trip i took brought me over 30mpg. (35 mpg once between Albany and back) so for a heaver car then the evo, with a very similar drive-train got why better economy was a pleasant surprise.
bet you thought I was going to talk about my diesel
Since when is low-mid 20’s GOOD?
Since everyone thinks their car is special. Granted mid-20’s is pretty good for 400hp, but still.
I’ve always been pretty impressed that a couple of the earlier NA mini coopers were rated at 40+ mpg highway. Granted it’s a slow tiny car, but built more solidly than a japanese tin can.
built more solidly? Maybe in body structure, but the reliability ratings on them are NOT good.
Far more importantly, I see the SHO is gone from your sig. Did it find a new home?
I get the same in my '11 MS3, ~35mpg @ 75mph
You traded in for a Gen 2?
When you’re not driving a compact with under 300 hp.
like a fiero? :suckoff:
I get 30-31mpg highway in my M3 which has no overdrive. I’m pretty happy with that.
See, I wouldn’t be. My Mustang will hit that all day long. Back when I ran stock 3.08 gearing I would nearly touch 30 on the highway.
It is! Parked her at the end of the driveway and some old dude snagged her up…for more than I bought it for:) Granted I put a couple bucks in it over 6 years and 75K miles…but I thought I did alright and I’m happy to see an enthusiast take it off my hands. That car, when and auto, would hit 32-33…manual it dropped a few.
I guess this is another angle to my post…I’d expect a car like the MS3 to be a bit higher than that, especially if I were to compare that to a car that is 10 years older and carrying 2 more cylinders (my E46). I dunno…maybe I’m expecting too much? Maybe it’s the slippery Vette with the crazy gearing that’s got me with higher expectations…
Mazdaspeed 3 gearing is pretty low, even in 6th gear.
Indeed, much better car than my 08
My GP is a pig for what it is. The best I’ve ever gotten was 26 on the highway at 70 with cruise control on. It’s never bothered me until I saw that Jay gets the same in his 6.0L GTO at a higher speed. LOL
Supercharger pulley really puts a load on the engine I guess.
I really enjoyed 26 mpg at 75mph in my V1. The V2 wants an award for anything north of 18.
I could swing mid 30’s out of my 9-3.
Considering picking up a Cruze to replace my Impala. I am hearing they can get mid 40’s without much effort in the turbo 4.
Yes you are.
My Mazda 3 (2.3) I avg 28 and highway trips get 30 and maybe 31-32 if I drive like a little bitch.
