How can anyone think this is unsafe? What about the 90% of cars that don’t have hubcentric rings, and just have a gap there between the wheel and hub? The lugs are what hold all the weight. He is only using the tape to enter the wheel for tightening the lug nuts down. After that, the lugs do 100% of the work.
It must be a joke that people think the tape deteriorating is going to be dangerous…
And the nobel prize goes to Reliant Turbo, and everyone up to Neonghl(thus far).
Thank you guys. Couldnt have said it better myself. I had a customer about 3 years ago try to convince me that the little bolt that holds the rotor to the hub is essential for his cars safety. I tried explaining to him that the dinky ass bolt will in no way effect the braking performance of his vehicle because it just isnt strong enough, and that the actual lugs, and tire, hub combo are what actualy hold his rotors in place. Well he didnt believe me so I sold him 2 new hubs lol.
But again. Well said, and + Karma or whatever goes out to you guys. Possibly a beer if you ever see me somewhere lol.
my geo metro doesnt even have a hub sticking out for the wheel to be hubcentric against lol. the face of the hub is completely flat minus the axle bolt that sticks out of the center and that is nowhere near the hole in the center of the wheel.
Hah! Thats the car i was thinking of earlier today. i just couldnt remember what it was. I used to deliver pizzas with one of those about a decade ago.
if your lugnuts dont keep the wheel from moving off enter on the hub YOUR DOING IT WRONG
i suppose if your running slotted mags with hard store nuts as lugnuts then you need hubcentric rings, but everyone stupid enough to buy wheels with slotted lug holes is already dead anyways
Well if you’re not running spacers it’s no big deal but if you really are too stupid to help center your wheels while you tighten them, you really shouldn’t be posting how-to’s using fucking TAPE.
Easy youngin. Elaborate on what you think i meant by hubcentric rings? Im not runing wheel spacers as to ofset my rims further. I was running hubcentric rings. They are little plastic rings that take up the slack between the hub of the car, and the inner bore of the wheel that is being bolted onto the hub. The ring helps center the wheel on the hub so that when the big impact wrench magically tightens the lugs, the wheel will be centered onto the hub as opposed to not be centered thus causing unwanted vibration.
So please. Dont make comments on subjects you seem to know little to nothing about.
He could be running spacers 10" long if he wanted(as long as the studs were long enough), it still wouldn’t matter. You could use ice as the hub centric ring if you wanted, as long as you could tighten it down before the ice melted. The only purpose of a plastic or metal hub centric ring is so that you can re-use it more than once, to center the wheel.
well then, looks like Fox Tire’s involvment will take the Ghetto rating on this project from 10/10 to 15/10.
btw, do you know for sure that while you were adding layers or tape around the “ring” that you were keeping it conentric? The point of the spacer after all is to keep the wheel conentric with the hub, not just to eliminate any play. If you know it’s conentric, then you’re okay…but ecentric is bad.
