Does anyone know if you can use both services at the same time?
I don’t see why you couldn’t as you’d probably get assigned a different number for each line. Why would you want to?
TW for home service. Vonage for business line. TW does not offer multiple lines. yet
they do in Rochester…I am sure they will in Buffalo soon
Only problem you’ll have is if you run out of bandwidth on the upload side. On the TW base package, in some areas anyway, you only get 384 up. When I had that my vonage conversations would be shitty if I took a call while uploading a bunch of pictures or video. It’s between 50-90k up and down for a high quality voip call.
You can use both, you can even use dialup with TW phone, for whatever reason you get phone but not broadband.
Time Warner does offer multiple lines but for businesses only. They’ve had for awhile now.
Not quite accurate… base update for Roadrunner Light and Roadrunner basic are both 128kb upload. Roadrunner Standard 1mb and Roadrunner Turbo is 2mb.
Now regarding SIP packets and shitty conversations TW Phone does QOS automatically for our service it should throttle other traffic correctly. However Vonage does not. Ifyou get a router that can up “upgraded to dd-wrt” you should be able to configure your QOS much better to allow for SIP traffic to always take priority and throttle down other traffic.
Standard is 1meg up DEPENDING ON YOUR AREA. In my case, 1 meg was not what you got with standard. I had to get upgraded to turbo to get 1 meg up.
And Vonage has QoS built into their routers as well. It’s still not instant, and it won’t go as far as completely stopping your other bandwidth eating services, so you can still get crappy calls.
With the customer service I’ve seen with Time Warner I’d be willing to put $50 on Vonage being able to do it better than TW, and Vonage can’t do it perfectly. Seriously man, I know you work there, but get off the TW nutsack.
