Verizon EDGE program. Is it worth it? Whats the catch?

Right, so with edge you own the phone at the end of 24months or if you pay it off sooner. IF you want to upgrade sooner and dont feel like pay off the phone to the certain %, then you must turn the phone back in.

The plan they had when I signed up a few days ago was if you jump on the edge plan and get into a 10gig(or higher) tier they give each line a $25 credit. So your $40 line access drops to $15/month. The nice thing about edge is theres no “upgrade fee” ($35) and you dont have to pay for the for upfront. You do however have to pay tax on the full retail of the phone when you sign up.

Depending on the phone and a few other factors edge may work for you. It works for us I guess.

Im sure ill find the catch later on down the road. If I do ill let people know

You must pay off the phone up to 75% of original MSRP if you want to upgrade early and then you still have to turn the phone in.

Or pay off 100% of the phone and keep it. Then sell phone on eBay for prob $200+.

there is no catch except how much it is to terminate your line. if you break the phone tomorrow and dont have insurance you’re still liable for that payment. if you want to cancel it its the remainder of the balance, whereas the most you’d have to pay with a 2 year contract is $350.

IMO insurance is a must on an edge agreement

another catch is that if you’re paying retail for a phone then that means you’re no longer getting a subsidized rate phone. So traditionally you signed up and got the phone for cheap and they’ve taken this $500 value every two years away from you.

Right but they also give you a monthly discount ATT does the same thing

yeah, it appears all of the providers plan to screw us over by removing phone subsidization one way or another.

It’s 15 or 25 off a month at 25 it covers what a subsidized phone would cost anyways

at $25 a month discount you get a free galaxy s5, no way in the past did you ever get the best phone for free
