Right, so with edge you own the phone at the end of 24months or if you pay it off sooner. IF you want to upgrade sooner and dont feel like pay off the phone to the certain %, then you must turn the phone back in.
The plan they had when I signed up a few days ago was if you jump on the edge plan and get into a 10gig(or higher) tier they give each line a $25 credit. So your $40 line access drops to $15/month. The nice thing about edge is theres no “upgrade fee” ($35) and you dont have to pay for the for upfront. You do however have to pay tax on the full retail of the phone when you sign up.
Depending on the phone and a few other factors edge may work for you. It works for us I guess.
Im sure ill find the catch later on down the road. If I do ill let people know
there is no catch except how much it is to terminate your line. if you break the phone tomorrow and dont have insurance you’re still liable for that payment. if you want to cancel it its the remainder of the balance, whereas the most you’d have to pay with a 2 year contract is $350.
another catch is that if you’re paying retail for a phone then that means you’re no longer getting a subsidized rate phone. So traditionally you signed up and got the phone for cheap and they’ve taken this $500 value every two years away from you.
