Vette destroyed...

X2, I will never drop my car off at any shop ever again. I have never had a good experience anywhere. And I see 100% where this person is coming from, I would never let that place touch my car again either.

i can see her side
i can see his side

i think i remember hearing one of the local shop owners OPENLY STATE on this forum that customer cars get taken home sometimes

when you throw 2k, 5k, 10k in parts at a car, and it was in pieces in the shop for weeks, shakedown runs are NEEDED, and sometimes that means one of the employees takes the car for the weekend

not saying that his employee realy had the right … just playing devils advocate

^Oh, i agree that shakedown run are needed, especially on high end work.

It can be debated about taking the car over the weekend counting as shakedowns.

But, mainly, you don’t take the car on shakedown runs after you call the customer and tell them it is done, and arrange pickup, as in this case.

^ nor drive your daughter to school with it

^^^agreed

at that point it should already be shook

and letting the guy who did the work take the car is just asking for a high speed accident to happen

“i bet this car will do 210mph with all these mods … lets see … wwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee… SURPRISE TREE !!!”

“minor fender bender”? :biglol:

I will say that sometimes it is important for a shop to take a car for a spin to evaluate certain things BEFORE they work on it. Like, does it vibrate at certain speeds, does it shift properly, etc…After working on a car and having a customer pick up the car and complain about something, it’s important to know if it was a pre-existing condition or not. The only way to know is to take it for a spin beforehand. Now, these guys seemed to take it a little bit too far with their “spin” though, lol.

shakedown runs are one thing, telling a tech they can take a car home for a weekend, to me, is far far beyond a shakedown run, I don’t care how much money was just spent on it… I agree they (the business) should have bought the car from her for whatever she thought was fair and this whole thing would have been avoided, the business also should have insurance that would cover this, if they could justify it was a “shakedown”. Yeah that would probably be tough.

she would have crashed it anyways. girls shouldnt own fast cars anyways.

harsh:uhh:

shops stupid fault. THEY wrecked HER car. NOW, THEY don’t get SAY in solution. THEY fix it to ORIGINAL condition with the NEW parts she originally payed for. NO salvaging or fixing of any parts. no FRAME straightening on parts THEY fucked up. VERY bad move on the shops part. yes, shitty, hairy situation for the shop. bad move, yes. do i feel bad for them for making a stupid mistake, hell yes. but now (then) was their time to CORRECT the mistake. he was micromanaging instead of looking at the OBVIOUS BIG PICTURE.

if that was me, and the best they would offer is to repair my previously almost mint car, i would have their ass in court so quick, and their name would be ruined. the thought of someone taking my possessions, esp one of that value, damaging them to that extent, and then TELLING ME how they are willing to fix it on a SUB PAR level?!.. i dont think so bub.

shitty situation.

i mean, you shoulda seen how motherfucking pissed i was when goodyear gemeni FUCKED up my fenders on my BRAND FUCKING NEW paintjob, then acted like nothing ever happened. ughhh i could have killed somebody. not to mention they were TOO FUCKING DUMB to accomplish what i brought the car there for, a simple alignment

according to teh OP, the owner admitted that it is not uncommon for them to deliver cars with upwards of 500 miles tacked on to them. Shakedown run? Thats like 8 hours of highway driving, and completely un-ethical. He had said that he felt bad saying no to the guy since he put in so much work to it? gtfo, thats his job. Sounds like the shop owner lets his crew push him around and he finally took the fall.

AMEN

first off, nov 27 2007 and nov 29 2007 are a tuesday and a thursday, so the guy did NOT take the car for the weekend, unless seh has her dats wrong, which i doubt

but anyways i agree with the “pre modification shake down run” stuff, as the only RIGHT way to mod a car is to start with a car that doesnt need repairs

and a weekend is NOT excessive under the right circumstances

-coolant flush: not a good reason
-street tuning a car: great reason
-rewired the whole car because of an engine swap: understandable
-cant find that squeak to save your life: if the customers gonna bitch, might have to spend the weekend poking and proding
taking your daughter to school: only if shes 18 and the main attraction at a frat party (and even then …eeeh… lol)

Things we’ve learned from this thread.

Anyone that agrees with the shop… never have them work on your car.

Crazy Story.

true.
