video playing issue... V. Choppy video

the computer is a celeron 300, with 128MB of ram, 128 video card, 30 gig HD and i have it playing videos off of a networked computer that is upstairs that is a much newer computer… (P4, 2.66 ghz, sony vaio)

when playing movies in VLC… the video gets choppy, i have yet to check the sound out as im too lazy to bring speakers downstairs…

what do u think the issue is that is causing the video to play so poorly…

btw it has a fresh install of windows xp on it and nothing else on the memory?

thanks

same thing happens here, i just think my computer us to slow lol

mine is basically the same with a celeron 400 and windows 2000

old school man, my parents just wont buy a new one and im not buying one

The higher the frame rate the faster and harder the video card needs to process.
Basically your video card sucks and the computer has too little memory.

so if i get a new video card and throw some more ram in it it would play better? i think i have a 256 ram chip in an old computer downstairs

yes

i still got that video card

does it have a video out on it… and ? rca style? any inputs> send me a link to the card or something lol

Codecs also play a role in vlc.

lesson learned… my tv is too old to produce a decent picture… sooooo im just gonna use that computer as a print server and a mp3 player for the home stereo

2003 spec OS + 1995 spec hardware = 1990 performance. Throw Win98SE on there and stop wasting what little processing power and RAM you have on the bloated OS.

just as a side note… not sure if its because of the nvidia purevideo codec or whatever, but I find that 9 times out of 10 WMP actually plays videos smoother than VLC does (HD videos atleast). I assume WMP is more efficient in that respect?

if hes gonna do that might as well go for the gold and do NT. maybe 2000.

That computer is too slow, period. All it is really good for is Audio, and simple server applications. The video card in this case has nothing to do with it, that CPU just is not capable of decoding modern codecs fast enough. Period.

And as stated when I was over XP is just overkill. It just meets the “minimum” requirements.

Also DoS stop trying to sell him an AGP video card for a computer with no AGP slots. :stuck_out_tongue:

cpu isnt strong enough to decode properly
