Well back about 6 months ago when I tried Vista, and it sucked…
The RC1 came out… and I’m quite impressed
Auto detected video card drivers, LAN, and SATA.
Looks very nice, Relatively quick, and I haven’t seen any conflict installing programs at all…
The effects are nice… and the REAL transparency is AWESOME
there are a few annoying things. the constant asking if i want to install something is lame, but after everything is installed I won’t see it again.
anyone else have an opinion of it? or have noticed anything they don’t like… or do like?
I don’t have RC1, i still have beta 2 - I’m not a CPP participant I don’t think so not sure how I can get a hold of it… what you are describing about it asking if it wants to install something is UAC (user access control) and it can be disabled, which is the first step on a vista installation IMO. Google “Disabling UAC” and you will be good to go, should be easy to find.
yea I did just disable that… I just installed the x64 version, and its running nice… tonight i’ll toss some games on there and see what happens. Your beta 2 key will work… if not… shoot me a PM and i’ll hook ya up
Anybody know if they fixed the RAID issues yet…I couldn’t install Beta 2 because it didn’t recognize any HD’s on my system…I don’t want to waste any time if RC1 is the same way…
Depends on your RAID controller. nvidia raid still isn’t working right. You need to slipstream the drivers yourself. It’s kind of a pain in the ass. Should be ok otherwise. RC1 is WAAAAY better than previous builds. It really shows that at least SOMEONE at m$ is trying to make a quality product. The new Aero theme is nifty but you better have at LEAST 1GB of ram for this thing. It’s hungry.
I wouldn’t really recommend it as a sole OS at this point. You could, but not everything is compatible at this point. Using it on a separate partition is ok though.
Also, I’ve been hearing that the x64 version is a HUGE pain in the ass because of the drivers. I haven’t tried it yet though, I’m still using x86.
can’t get my raid card to work… tried pretty much everything…
i don’t want to just not use it … i have two drives on there with my music and most importantly my porn…
