WAI - may damage engine?!?

Anyone have a definite explanation to this comment?
I went to a shop with my friens’t Civic SI to see why one of his plugs keeps on rising, and the mechanic said it’s probably due to the Bomz Intake he has on the car. According to him, a short Ram Air (Warm Air Intake) causes improper detonation because the warmer air temp, and that the engine is at risk of serios damage the longer he keeps it on.
He suggested to either invest in a CAI or revert back to stock.

this is the first time i’ve heard anyone say that, so i’m wondering if there is any truth behind it?

I dunno, seems kinda strange, … hows his oil pressure?

A good way to find out if the mechanic is right is to run some higher octane and see if it goes away.

I say the mechanic is on a fishing expedition. The intake would effect all the air entering the engine, why is only one plug ‘rising’? Most modern cars have extremely broad operating tolerances in terms of temp. The intake shouldn’t make that much of a difference.

BS. And thats that.

see if what goes away? You mean the plug stays put?

Yeah, if detonation is causing it, see if it (detonation) goes away with higher octance gas, because it should, and if the spark plug stays put then it has.

The mechanic is Correct Hot Air Intakes Increase Detonation and SI’s
run really close to detonation stock. They recoment at least 91 octane.

Tell him to use 91min or get a real CAI.
