Went out for a beginner bike...

I was wearing them when I went down and they saved a lot of pain. Take a minute to think what happens during a motorcycle accident and what type of protection regular sneakers will provide. Would you pay ~$200 to keep your feet intact? I’m glad I did.

Same here to all of this. I wear my sneakers when commuting to work and back.

Ok, so it looks like im ordering some boots. Other new riding gear will wait till winter/spring though. Ive been losing weight like crazy and dropping sizes so im going to look around over the winter and decide then. And are the SMX+ boots that much better than the SMX5? I understand the whole ‘its your life dont go cheap’ but…for how little i think ill ride its gonna be hard dropping an extra 150$ on boots, especially when i could spend that on other better riding gear.

Next question - did you guys take the road test from the dmv or the riding course? and if you took the course, did you do it just because of the road test waiver and was it worth it.

You would probably be fine with the SMX5 boots. I would check into even looking at used pairs since they can often be had for cheap. I took the course for both reasons. It’s an easy way to get your license and you will definitely learn things that are most often overlooked by beginner riders.

the smx5 boots are fine for the street and some beginner trackdays, super comfortable to walk in. I went with the perforated model which was pretty awesome during some of those hot days this summer. I know a lot of people with them who love them and only wear more expensive models on the track.

Ok i feel a little better looking for the smx5 boots instead of the +, but i also never really thought of looking for them used. if i can save money on that id like to!

put the new windshield on it today, and getting it out so i can hopefully ride it a bit tmrw.
