My MK3 GTI was very badly rusted. I just didnt want to put my daughter in it anymore so I replaced it with this one.
I dont have any pics handy from when I bought it. Picture a bone stock MK4 GTI, with a B&M shifter.
Right away I did a bunch of work to it to make it more what I was used to with the old GTI:
EDIT: its a 24V VR6 6spd
Autotech clubsport springs and shocks (they arent awesome, but w/e they were cheap)
Autotech rear adjustable swaybar
Autotech cold air intake
Black badges, smoked marker lights, new headlights with HIDs
Radio, etc
Gauges
AWE pedal set
Armrest delete
Paitned the stock wheels black.
I also completly gutted the top half of the super light grey interior and made it all black. I completely took apart all the switches and lights and painted each piece black and reassembled. Recovered the headliner (shaved the oshit handles), dyed the visors and clips, dyed the door trim etc etc.
Nothing really major, just enough to make it feel more like “home”.
Fast forward a year, I finally got some pics of it clean.
Next, and probably last mod for a long time, I have a Sparco drivers seat I need to install, and a Schroth harness.
Ill likely never buy diff wheels / tires / suspension for the car. Its just my dd, Id asume keep it simple. I would, however, like alot more rear swaybar… or maybee NO front bar.
I have lots of spare time :-p
I think overall I liked my MK3 better. However, I do like the power of the 24v VR6 compared to the 12V in the MK3. I think my biggest complaint is the extra weight, slightly shittier handling (perhaps b/c of the suspension ), and the stock clutch or maybee its the dual mass flywheel that fn blows.
My mirror is also black. I took it all apart, painted each piece, and reassembled it.
I got some GC camber plates from a texer this week. The fn thrust bearings were rusted solid. Apparently he didnt even know they had thrust bearings, lol. I orderd new ones today from McMaster for the whopping price of $9.63. They shoudl be here friday. Im hoping to get the plates in, and have some camber saturday.
Anyone have an idea how big a spacer I can run with the stock wheels/tires with my lame lowness?
