I ran the ls7 clutch in the rx7(cam-only) that ran 10.9-11.0 like clockwork launching on slicks at 6krpm. I would buy one again in a minute.
Don’t let interwebs weenies get in your head.

I haven’t heard anything at all bad about the ls7 clutch. I went from a monster IV to a mantic and it made daily driving so much better.
I hated that monster IV.
i was planning to do the LS7, and i might still, maybe ill pay the extra $100 to get the light weight flywheel.
I dont have any crazy goals, i want basically what you described.
im surprised by what i have been reading as well, i was only researching because i noticed i see monster is more common and i dont read about spec clutches any more and thats what i was familiar with when i had my old TA.
Ill probably still go with it
Haha, i know. You were nice and let me drive your car, and i liked the way the pedal felt, althougg only drove it like 100ft.
I dont really have any extreme plabs with the car, maybe bolt ons. Kaybe a cam eventually, not very soon though.
Was just surprised what ive read.
I’m still on my stock clutch, we will see how it holds up after it gets tuned later this month…
Speaking of which, @Norb_O I see you have HPtuners, are you able to read out my stock file to send to New Era, and then load the base tune for me?
I am borrowing the software so it’s not really my call, talk to @LZ or @mahoneybags21
You can view tunes for free using the Demo Mode of the software but you are not able to flash a tune onto a PCM unless you pay for the credits to license that PCM ($100).
ECS will do mail order tunes for $150 which is a good value for someone with bolt ons, that doesn’t plan on modifying anything down the road. It’s a decent start to get the car up and running

If you want to pay the $100 in credits your welcome to
use it.
Ok thanks. I think I will just try to arrange trailering or towing it out there then.
edit: @LZ1 I may take you up on that offer depending on towing/trailering cost
If I could do it for free I would but their licensing system sucks
This makes me want to try one in the nova.
I have a monster lvl 3 and its just too on/off for my taste.
No way to crack this? I’m sure you would know.
One post that made sense was the fact it is a heavier setup, and that why do a modification that could technically slow the car down.
Ill probably still do an LS7 clutch when the time comes, or maybe a monster stage 1 or 2.
I had a spec 3 in my trans am ws6 when i had it, and it squealed whenever i took off(normal driving), so i hated it.
And im surprised it seems specs arent common any more, and that monster took its place?
I knew I remember a thread being posted about Spec before: http://www.nyspeed.com/showthread.php?226357-My-official-quot-beware-of-buying-anything-from-Spec-Clutch-quot-thread&highlight=spec+clutch
I have a spec in the vette and cavy, I like um.
Pulled out the clutch assist spring:

Will be fabbing up a real return spring in the next week or so
I think I have one if you want it
It’s whatever the C6 guys replace theirs with but im rolling without one.
The return spring and assist spring are 2 separate things
All Vettes (C5/C6) came with an assist spring as pictured above. The C6 spring is stronger than the C5 spring so a lot of C6 guys remove theirs and replace it with a C5 spring.
The return spring on the other hand is literally a tension spring (like on your storm door that stops it from opening too far) that helps pull the pedal back up into resting position. Pedal effort goes up but I’ll gladly deal with that over the soft pedal bullshit
pm’d you. will be ready to start in the next couple days. let me know…
^I have his cable but am finishing up with it and will have it back to him by this weekend.
Ok cool. I should be starting it within the next couple days, depending on when I have time to finish it up. Just want to get some miles on it before the tuning appointment to check for leaks and what not.
Yea I was waiting to get it back from Norb and see what my work travel schedule is going to be like.
When I bought the car it had some wacky subwoofer fiberglass box in the OEM cargo well. Hated not having room for jumper cables, couple tools, the usual “necessities”, so it had to go.
so here’s what I started with

Pulled back the carpet, sure enough they glassed it right to the OEM tub. I’m sure it took somebody a long time to do this because it seemed to look pretty nice but I’m not into big audio and I want my storage space back
They glassed the wood into the shell and then bonded over that as well. Then laid the carpet over it and trimmed it with a knife.

So out came the hammer for some test hits

Pretty brittle stuff so it started ok along the stress points

The wood flaked apart easily

Keeping at it. Sides came away

The pile grows

The final shell in the bottom of the tub proved to be very tricky.

After some more cursing and yanking

Finally! I vacuumed everything up

And lined the entire rear with Frost King insulation. No pics of the finished product, I was losing daylight and wanted to get it done.

I finally remounted my 12 CD changer in the OEM spot since they had laid fiberglass in the well where it was supposed it go. New mounting nuts and lockwashers, and now it’s like brand new. I am more than pleased with how it came out.
