so back in 2007 VW launch the eos and I told my grandmother to buy one because it was perfect for her needs in florida (and also perfect for me to borrow when down there). It’s a true bastard of the VW parts bin. It’s a hard top convertible build on a shortened passat platform with lots of golf parts and the 2.0T or R32 motor depending on trim. It comes with a 6 speed or DSG. It’s a mid trim level 2.0T with DSG. This one is very loaded for a mid level trim with nice fake perforated leather seats (they last longer) with power lumbar supports, dual zone climate control, on board computer and a bunch of other stuff I’m forgetting. The only annoying downside is this one doesn’t have the multi-function steering wheel or paddles. I can still control the DSG (twin clutch transmission) from a tiptronic style shifter. You can also buy a $100 catless ebay downpipe and then chip it with APR stage 2 software and get 270hp/320tq like I did with my A3 which should make this a 14 flat car in the 1/4.
So fast forward to this week and my grandmother wanted a new car again so I offered to buy it for trade in value and she countered with a much lower price and the deal was done. The car only has 21k miles on it! The only annoying part was that I had surgery on my wrist last thursday so I’d be driving the 1550 miles from Naples, Fl to Rochester, NY with basically one good hand.
I looked at all the route options and I95 through DC was the quick way but I decided why not add a few more miles and head up through Atlanta for dinner and then grab a hotel a little north of there. That was thursday, Friday I woke up and headed for what was the main reason for this route - the famous tail of the dragon. It was great, you must do it atleast once in your life if you’re a car enthusiast. The tightness and number of turns and amount of camber was unreal. I want to learn how to ride a bike so I can go back and do it properly now. The beauty of the area was also amazing. I continued on to Cleveland, OH and stayed at a friend’s place then drove the 4 hours back to Rochester on Saturday. The eos did great, I was driving 80mph most of the time and averaged 27mpg. It could have been 30+ if I went a little slower.
Plans? I’d like to tint it, wheels, maybe stage 2 it, and lower it maybe 1" (so will need to be coilovers I guess), and HIDs.
My 328IC will be going up for sale soon. I expect to be bored with this EOS in a year so my girlfriend will likely get it and I’ll buy something even more fun and fast like an SL55 or C6.
So here are some pics of the car from the tail.
