i’m n00b about all this kinda stuff…but, if he’s $14 million back in taxes, why can’t he just pay the $14 million with some interest and be good to go? it’s not like he doesn’t have the money… The way i see it, the government could use his money a lot more than they could use another inmate to spend money on feeding and such…
I would say if you brought your tax return to a very professional accountant who you paid decent money for, and he said. I found a loophole in article 4b, item 12452 clause 4, and since you qualify for item 8a, you actually are exempt from taxes this year, you would be fucking ecstatic, brag to all your friends about your awesome accountant and spend your money on some shitty bodykit.

It is ALSO general public knowledge that the tax system is LOADED with loopholes and tricks that only accountants know. People always say that a good accountant can save you TONS of money on a tax return. Someone leading a life like Wesley Snipes relies on people around him to take care of this stuff for him.
Because it isn’t just a tax error. He broke lots of tax laws, for years, and forced this to go to trial. He’s way past the point of just paying the tax and penalties.
The government also charged that Snipes sent three worthless, fictitious “bills of exchange” to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in the amounts of $1,000,000 (on November 30, 2000), $12,000,000 (January 18, 2001), and $1,000,000 (September 10, 2002), with each accompanied by an IRS tax payment voucher coupon.
That’s not, “my tax guy screwed up”, that’s outright fraud, done over a period of years. There were years of opportunity for him to hire a new tax guy and clear this up, but instead he kept trying one scam after another to get out of paying.

I was at the DMV yesterday and on the wall was some 50 year old man who had sex with a 6 year old.
He went to prison for 3 years.
So,
Raping a 6 year old = Not paying your taxes. in the eyes of the justice system.
I agree that he should be punished. It just sucks he has to do 3 years because he is famous.
edit: by sending him to jail, isn’t this going to cost the gov’t even MORE money? because they will have to feed him and provide shelter.
