i hear people say put something new in to “be different” but thats what everyone is doing and has been doing for the last 7-8 years, puttin new engines in old bodies. With all the car TV shows its become a bigger craze so its not like its something different anymore. Big diplacement v8 is a different feeling and sound from anything else. For a nice cruiser old technology is fine.
well ive never seen a new LS1 or LS6 transplant into the platforms i mentioned above…not in real life atleast. so to me its different.
i’ve seen several ls1 transplants, about a dozen lt1 and a crap load of tpi swaps.
If I had a 69 Camaro, or hell, any mid 60’s to early 70’s Chevrolet, I’d do my best to find a 302 to put in them… High revving (for an SBC), and makes damn good horsepower… A little low on the tourqe, but you don’t see 302’s anywhere and I’d love to own one.

just IMO, the 302 just doesn’t have it. You can build big ci. SMC’s and still get good rev’s. If you are staying with SB though, I’d at least start with a 327 if you wanted to stay mild. There is a healthy 327 in a 69 'maro we have layin around and its plenty, loves 7k rpm and used to do high 12’s back in the day.

I say get a 69 Z28, put in some modern suspension and buy a LS1 out of a wrecked f-body. Build it a little, throw it in. Put some modern 17-18inch wheels…maybe some smoothies. Paint it a Metal flake blue with white stripes…that would be the sickness…but would prob be out of a lot of people’s budget.
