I had 215k on mine. no rust at all (few dents) and I got 1900. I would expect 2200ish depending on the rust assessment and service records.
But its only worth what someone will pay for it. Its a tough market out there. Given the rust free condition of my car I was hoping to get around $3k since its hard to find that in ny, but the mileage drove the price down. http://nyspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70608
color/options/mileage/body condition (rust and dents) will all effect the price up or down, and it depends on who the buyer is on whats important.
p/s it only takes 2 minutes to text a picture to your email, save it to your computer, then upload it with the “manage attachments” button.
I would disagree and think you could probably pull closer to 3k. I bought my 98 dx sedan off agy2k2 for $2200 with 147k miles. And the body is probably close to the same condition as yours. I looked all over WNY for a comparable civic, mostly on craigslist. Everything under $2500 I found needed some sort of work, even if it was minor, or had a bunch of rust. It may take a little while to sell it, but given the low mileage you should be able to find someone easily. Maybe not here on the forum, but definitely elsewhere. My neighbor just put down $5k+ for a 97 civic with 88k off a dealer. Way overpriced but that’s from a dealer.
I agree, you should get closer to 3k for it. I paid over 3k for our 98 DX, and it had more miles and needed front brakes – that was also 2 years ago. But it’s my experience that Honda’s get a premium around here, if they’re not rust-buckets. It’s just hard to find one not in crappy condition.
If you’re really considering selling, check prices with craigslist. There were definitely a lot of people that wanted WAY too much for their civics. If yours is in nice condition, and has such low mileage, 3k should be easily attainable (as long as you don’t give in to the craigslist lowballers).
It depends how bad you want to sell it and how good you are at selling things. People are gunna throw all sorts of info at you. This is not the place to try and get more than something is worth. But it is very possible, for $2k it will sell fast. If you want to get $3500 it is going to take the right person, and obviously some time. I have a couple friends who have gotten way more than a car is worth(this isn’t usually the case on forums, again). Put is for sale at work, put a huge sign on the back of it. The kind of people who don’t research cars(and aren’t looking on the internet) usually over pay. You could get $5k if the right dope walks up to you, but don’t insult us by asking $5k.
You can’t compare dealership prices because they offer financing and have better advertising. They are a known business that gets many uneducated consumers that unknowingly overpay. But that doesn’t mean you can’t try and find that dope, even if he is one of your friends.
I love threads that say “How much can I get…” because you know they’re just gonna turn right around and sell it on here for that much. Obviously the car is only worth like a grand to him and I bet he would have taken it if you guys didn’t tell him it was worth 3.
It’s not like he’s some noob. He’s been around the classifieds to see what kind of offers people give on here. Like the title says, looking realistically for what it’s worth. Now he’s got some opinions to consider.
Got a guy coming tomorrow for $3200. We will see where it goes from there. You guys must be thinking the car is rusted, it has a SMALL rust bubble and the underneath is super clean.
