What kind of engine is this????

It says that is an RB25 with auto trans but it doesnt look like the usual RB25 so maybe this a newer version.

As it says, its the Neo 6 version.

The 2.5 L RB25 engine was produced in three forms:

RB25DE - twin-cam 140 kW/190 PS and 147 kW/200 PS (with VCT) @ 6000 rpm, 255 N·m (26.0 kgf·m) @ 4000 rpm)
RB25DET - twin-cam turbo (245 to 250 hp and 319 N·m)
NEO RB25DET - twin-cam turbo (206 kW (280 PS) @ 6400 rpm, 362 N·m (37.0 kgf·m) @ 3200 rpm)
RB25DE and DET engines produced from August 1993 also featured NVCS (Nissan Variable Cam System) for the intake cam. This gave the new RB25DE more power and torque at lower rpm than the previous model.

In May 1998 a NEO head was fitted, which enabled the engine to be classified as a low emission vehicle engine (LEV). The non-VCT and non-turbo was fitted to the R32 Skyline, the VCT turbo and non-turbo was fitted to R33 Skylines and Stageas. R34 Skylines also use these engines, but they are fitted with a NEO head

now i feel stupid …wikipedia ftw i tell ya … thanks dave. Now that i have that out of the way this engine comes with an auto tranny which is not what i want… can i swap an SR20 manual tranny in there or does it has to be the RB, the other thing i was reading on nico that if i was to do this i would have to modify engine mounts which is understandable but what about the Xmember??? and downpipe would all that have to be modifyied?

Yea you need the skyline crossmember IIRC. And i dont think an SR tranny would work, thinkin youd need to pair it up with with the RB tranny. Im sure Allen Peterson know more about this, and would have the stuff youd need.

If its just a new head on an RB25 block couldn’t you just use RB25 S13 (or S14) custom crossmembers from mckinney or top hat? That makes sense to me. You could also use the skyline crossmembers and modify them to fit, but that takes a little more work. Same with the tranny, I’m pretty sure you can use a RB25 tranny, but have fun finding one. An Sr20 tranny won’t work though.

For the downpipe, as far as I know needs to be notched (or at least in my case) to clear the steering column.
I don’t know how much different it would be to an RB25 swap, but trust me the swap is expensive as hell (I’m at 8k+ and I still need an exhaust). But I also started with a dead stock 240.

I’ve seen the swap completed too :tonqe: . Good luck if you try it :drinkers:

na na na i think that ill just beat the KA and get my moneis worth out of that first with a turbo install ,maybe after that though cause i would like to have a newer engine in … and about the KA-T lets not do the occasional burn :muffy: for it as long as you dont rise your boost and keep it to a NORMAL level it should be ok even if the engine was not built for it

So, the only difference between a neo, and non-neo RB is that the neo is low emissions? There has to be more.

RB25DET - twin-cam turbo (245 to 250 hp and 319 N·m)
NEO RB25DET - twin-cam turbo (206 kW (280 PS) @ 6400 rpm, 362 N·m (37.0 kgf·m) @ 3200 rpm)

the neo has more advanced VVTI and had something like 2mm bigger valves. This is the best cyl head nissan makes for inline 6 engines. They make massive more power than the series 1 and 2 RB25’s. The injectors are also larger and top feed. To do the electrical on these neo’s is a pain in the ass. Well for me anyways. Much more work is needed and you prob wont find that info anywhere in a Canadian fourm. If you want to know more about the neo6 go to www.skylinesaustralia.com

That RB25 Neo 6 most likely came out os a 99 stagia. Ive baught about 5 of those cars now for neo swaps we have done in the past.

I have 1 skyline in edmonton right now with a neo6. Also just over a year ago I built a neo with GT2535 and greddy mani and Q45 TB. Fucking haulled ass

NEO6 FTW!!! I want a neo head bad for a RB30 conversion. Prob the best head to use for that and adapt the vvt as well.
