Im looking into an rb25det w/mt swap for my 91 type m skyline and im wondering which route will get me more bang for my buck. I’d also like to know which one of these is more practical. In addition what kind of things will i need for the swap to work that arent already included with just the engine itself. I’d prefer to get everything i need in one nice package but if its gunna be more cost effective to just buy the engine and then the additional parts seperately well… then. Any thoughts?thanks guys
rb26 if you are going for bang for buck …its a waste to just go to a rb25 stock unit
is the RB26 really worth the extra $1700? i’ve pondered the swap, and mostly what i’ve seen are R32 RB26’s vs R33 RB25s. there’s an obvious age difference already which reinforces my thought that an RB25 with a good turbo would be sufficient.
although if someone wanted to make a damned beast of a motor, then i’d recommend the RB26 all the way.

stock for stock I would go for the rb26 as most people leave their cars stock anyways and only some people HAVE big plans anyways …
go for a R34 Neo6 RB25DET w/ 280HP …
Thanks for the replies guys. Becks yes i am from lethbridge and yes i WILL have a skyline as of March 2006. Right now the car isnt legal so i have to sit and twiddle my thumbs until it gets here. The modded rb20 is out the window to reach my goals i would have to modify the internals and that right there i already more expensive then swapping up to an rb25. Theres alos the reliability factor r32 vs. r33, rb25 is a newer more refined engine. and as for a neo rb25det well i dont have a pool full of cash.Im with mikesil on the rb26 the $1700ish extra doesnt really seems worth it. Screw the awd no good for driftin .
hey dude!
Go with rb25 ya forsure. Im sending some engines over in spring time. an engine for myself and a couple other rb25’s. If you me to help you out just PM me and we can chit chat. the rb25 is an awsome engine and I also dont think its worth geting the 26 unless you really need the more displacment. Just have to throw on a bigger turbo onto the rb25 and your ready to rock and roll. Im also tweeking a neo6 right now thats in a Silvia. You should come over and take a look.
BTW have me met before??? Later man!
got any pics of your skyline?

how much power are you looking to make?
If i was to do it over, i think i would have just thrown some cams in the rb20 and boosted the crap out of it…sure it wouldnt be as much power but for drifting you dont need much power at all anyway. It all depends what you want to do with the car. I would however, swap an rb25 because of the fact that your car has over 100 000 km on it and personally, japanese km are way harder on a car than canadian (because its all stop and go, and they dont change their oil very often at all). That will assure you a good platform to start modding from. Or like i said before, i know a guy in australia that strapped a td06 onto his rb20 and just boosts the shit out of it until it explodes and then swaps another rb20 in for under a grand…interesting approach but for him it works great. All in all though, buy the motor, not the entire clip cause you dont need the brakes and such anyway, so why pay extra shipping on an entire half-car.
