After tuning the cavy I noticed my fuel pressure wasnt rising over 60psi, with 50psi base fuel pressure and 20psi. At first I assumed this to be b/c of low voltage as my alternator wasnt charging over 4k rpms. I replaced that and the fuel pressure wasnt miraculolusly fixed.
After that didnt work I installed a spare inline Walbro up front between the hardline and the fuel rail. That fixed the issue, now fuel pressure tracks over 60psi, and right to 70 where it should.
However, I really dont want to keep the hacked in inline pump forever and want a a “final” soluton.
Originaly I was thinking I woud just leave the rear pump and build a surge tank to mount up front with twin walbros in that, feeding the rail via -8 (the rail is already -8, just with -6 fittings).
The other option is to just put another Walbro in the tank on the stock lines (3/8" feed, 5/16" return).
What Im not sure of is if the stock lines will be sufficient with dual wablros and the thought of running a new hardline for the feed isnt high up on my things Id really like to do list.
Currently I make 330hp/315ftbls, but we were limited on fuel b/c of the pressure issues. Im shooting for 400whp.
I dunno what size the stock fuel line is, but I know in F-bodies and Mustangs the stock fuel line supports dual in-tank Walbro’s; and this is done very often.
i would run a constant 14v to the fuel pump from the battery with a relay, the feed and return are definetly big enough
i wouldnt say that an inline fuel pump is “hacked”, i know plenty of people who run a walbro in tank pump feeding a bosch inline pump with 600whp on e-85
Yes. Could it be even better, probably. However, Im not convinced it would make any difference. After I fixed the alternator and gained almost 2.5V there was no improvement. Both the dash gauge and my data logs agree.
The pump could be on the way out. Its been in there for over 6 years (but has MUCH less than normal operation time.)
Im not saying an inline pump is hack, but they way I have mine in there now is. I literally spent like 45mins plumbing it in and wiring the relay. Its less than up to my standards. I could just make it nice…
The surge tank setup would give me:
tons of headroom if I ever want to go back to corn power
no need to upgrade the stock lines
never have to worry about fuel starvation on low tank
I acutally have almost all the fittings and hose etc “in stock” Id need to plumb it, lol
It could net me more power, def. There is still power to be had on pump gas. Im near certain I can make close to 400 observed on Ricks Land and Sea on 93 oct. I was just out of injector before due to the shit fuel pressure.
As of now, I think Im just going to do the dual in tank walbros. I can probably install and wire them in a night or two and be done. If someyear I go back to corn, Ill figure out what to do then, if I even need to do anything.
