The thread i started about my longtube header got slightly off-topic but i also liked where it was going so i made a new thread to see people’s point of views.
So what type of auto enthusiast are you?
what i say about it is: V8 sports car–> Yes there are fast cars from factory. When you buy a V8 sports car and plan to modifiy it you get impressive gains.
Take a 03 Cobra for example. so you buy the cobra, its a fast car from factory. your standing at a car show and this cobra pulls in, your friends look at you and say “damn thats a fast car”. indeed it is, but its what you EXPECT from a V8 sports car, which makes it not as surprising.
normal family car, sporty 4 and 6 cyls, and economy cars–> These cars are bought from factory for good gas mileage and something to get around town in, as for the 4 and 6 cyl sport cars their made for the same reason but are for the people that want to have a little more fun when thier out on a sunday drive. Now what impresses me is when your standing at the same car show and say a ,i dont know… A honda civic pulls in!
You dont think much of it and keep walking around the car show. later you come upon this civic and are speechless… It’s completely built under the hood and looks stock from the exterior. The owner shows you timeslips and it runs low 11’s… So thats what impresses me, when you take a car this isnt a performance vehicle and you turn it into one.
I’d like to hear other member’s point of views on this also.
I was both, but now I’m neither. You forgot about pure sports cars-two seats, RWD, any size engine, hardtop or convertible. You know, cars like Datsun Z cars, old British sports cars, 911s, Ferraris, stuff like that.
im all about something that looks stock (near stock) and is faster then the way it came out of the factory.
11 second camaro. 12 second srt 13 second civic 14 second saturn. blah blah blah.
not into fart cans but dont totally hate when i hear loud 4 bangers. as long as the car is clean. (my old saturn) oh and the most awesome thing out of anything is fast trucks.(besides quiks because its an auto :kekegay:
What type of enthusiast are you? Nah, I don’t think that’s the question here…
What type of “enthusiast” would be more like “Do you enjoy street racing, bracket drag racing at the track, legal heads up drag racing, autocrossing, open tracking, road racing…ect”
Back “on topic”…
For street racing and T&T at the track occasionally, and for an all around “toy” for me, I prefer a RWD domestic V8 powered car…I love the sound and feel of a torquey V8, I love low end power and torque, I just like the whole feel of a healthy V8. I play around with a Mustang GT, but if I couldn’t own a Mustang I’d be happy with an Fbody, Vette, or GTO too.
Like I said before I am into cars built for performance. To me if you want a "performance car’ then start with a platform that was built for it in the first place. I do respect fast cars that are not from the factory built for performance but I really dont like them. For example neons are not cool…if it runs 10 then cool for the 10 second slip but it is still a neon. I would rather have a 13-14 second car than a 10 second neon, civic, 240, dsm, ect. For example if I was in my ws6 and any one of those cars “smoked” me it would nothing at all to me. But for the driver of the other car they would prob have a hard on and brag to no end about it. But that is just me and everyone has their own thing.
When people dump 15k into their 4 banger, of course its gonna beat my factory muscle.
I’m amused at how many people in their SUV’s and 4doors wanna race me at every stoplight, just because my car is fast, doesn’t mean it says “race me” across the side. Heres another excuse. “I cant race, im trying to get good gas mileage in my V8”
I’m into any car/truck that is fast and clean. No ridiculous stripes or glitter paint, etc. Just tastefully put together and is quick. 4cyl, 6, or 8. Not too into exotics other than drooling when I see one because owning one is just a pipe dream.
