Why fix something that is not broke and still whoop ass.
all honestly i don’t see any financial gain by designing a motor that is more complex to keep up with technology. i am a firm believer in keeping it simple. makes maintinance easier and cheaper to maintain.
This may have nothing to do with the thread. But I took my 2007 Chevy 1500 in for service (work truck 2X4). (65000 miles) It needed front brakes, rotors and hubs my total was $2230. I couldent beleive it.
Then people would work on the car themselves and not need to take it to the dealer to be fixed.
Well it’s too bad we live in a world of technology and advancement. People expect that these days. Especially when you are comparing 2 cars. The one with more ‘technology’ will have the edge. Plus advertisers eat up fancy technological buzz words.
i like advancement in technology. but to the point where it makes it unrealistic. with GM the transition for moreadvancement is a lot simpler. compare an 80s electronic carb junk they had to modern day lsx powered truck. much simpler much more efficient and more reliable.
The best thing GM could do would be to ditch the union and move all of their operations to Mexico. Of course that would be devastating to Detroit, but business is business.
Oh, and stop all of the redundant cars. cut a few lines (hummer/saturn/etc.). Introduce a small, rwd turbo 4cyl car with GOOD, ,curvy, sexy, mid 90’s styling (not this sharp edged shit that wont seem to go the fuck away) and decent gas mileage. The truck lines are doing pretty good so I’d leave them alone with the exception of the option of alternative fuel compatibility.
Axe the Cobalt and Malibu. Come up with a new name and style/class it to run with Jap cars.
No, what they need to do is STOP introducing all these new model names. It kills brand recognition. Does everyone know what a 3 series is? Of course. The name hasn’t changed since 1975 (thanks wiki). Everyone knows what a Corvette is, that’s about the only GM that hasn’t changed names. I’ve used this example multiple times on here in the past and it still holds true.
Big 3 keep changing all the names and tossing some off-the-wall shit into the hat stating they are starting the “American Revolution”…no dumb asses, ur displaying what numskulls you are to the rest of the world.
Refine what you’ve already got before giving birth to another clusterfuck. 5 yr rotating product development and turnover. cake. Stop making 3 of the same car! everybody knows its the same gosh darn thing with a different bumper cover on it! lol, Redunancy kills and GM is getting burned. They got too big for their own good, it’s not just the unions but they have their dark sides as well. What it comes down to is 1)and most likely, they can be stubborn and be without jobs or 2)take a relatively small paycut and continue ‘working’. Being that they are accustomed to their higher living standards, they shouldn’t have to squander with the rest of the American working force. And after watching that wonderful display of idiocy via the Mayor of Lansing, Detroit is going to be in a world of hurt.
Chevy Malibu 1964, Chevy Silverado 1975, Corvette 1951, Impala 1958, All still current model names (thanks wiki). What the hell is your point, again???
Chevy Traverse, Cruze, Aveo, Cobalt, The Minivan names, etc…
Aztec/vue/rendezvous, G5, G6, G8, HHR, Colorado, Avalanche, Equinox/Acadia/Enclave, metro/aveo, lumina, blazer/trailblazer, S10, Jimmy, alero, Tahoe, Montana, tracker, etc. etc.
It sounds like someone went on a wilderness excursion for 2 weeks and wrote down every word that came to their head and said, hey, lets make a car and name it this! it’ll be sooo revolutionary, nobody would know what hittem.
Same turd, different diaper. If they would’ve stuck with the old names, Impala and Malibu…well, they are the same thing so they dont count, Monte Carlo is a cool car…develope a solid base group, they would have been fine. They got too big for their own good, their own brands started competing with eachother, that’s not a monopoly, thats not supply/demand, that’s a death wish, that’s flooding the market with so much shit and hope confused consumers will bite on it. And now the reapers here to collect and they aint got a damn penny. Shame on them.
And a wonderful smoke break argument to get away from the marketing side of things, in another aspect…all these foreign governments pump money into their auto industries, build the factories, direct their auto manufacturers what types of vehicles to build, their workers either don;t have to pay for health insurance or it’s provided to them by their socialist governments. That doesnt cost the corporations a dime. GM can’t compete with that. The rules aren;t the same.
If you truely want to bitch about GM competing with its self, why not argue about Chevy VS GMC? Really the same rides, with different names.
