What's a rare car?

There were 4770 S4 Sedans sent to the US in 2001. And I’m not sure of the world count. Also there were about 2500 1990 Pontiac ASC McLaren TGP’s made (world count). 2 cars that in my opinion are rare, when I say I own 2 rare cars IMO. When I consider all the cars in the US and compare it against the amount of one particular car, that seems rare. You really come off as an asshole almost all the time to me. Was there any need to call me an “idiot” because we have a difference in opinion on what makes a car rare?

What about a '67 Shelby GT 500??? Low actual production numbers and not too many rolling around these days.

Some might consider a car rare, but would rare also have to mean it is highly collectible?

To me, I’ll name 3 rare cars that are or were in the WNY area.

70 Ford Mustang Boss 429 - only 499 made, probably less than 1/3 left
Local car just concours restored, probably worth an easy $500,000 - $700,000

And 2 local cars that were from WNY and just sold:
1960 Dodge Polara 500 convertible w/ crossram - 1 of 8

Sold for $179,200 at Barrett Jackson

1954 Packard Caribean Convertible - 1 of 26

Sold for $148,500 at Barrett Jackson

A few quick others:
69 Camaro Copo ZL1 or any COPO Chevy made
70 Chevelle LS6 or LS7
Any Hemi Cuda or Hemi Roadrunner / Daytona

So rare to me is a low number, highly collectible car.

I know of one that is in need of restoration, but the guy still will not budge on it and all it does is sit in his barn

EDIT: its a 4-speed to boot

They often go hand in hand, but it’s certainly not a requirement for rarity.

There were 44 1983 Vettes made,(None were sold to the public) only 1 remains. That 1 is in The Corvette Museum in Bowling Green and is known as simply, Number 23. The other 43 were destroyed. If someone tells you they have a 1983 Corvette…they’re a LIAR.

Know of any other nice barn finds…
If he lets that thing rot, it’s still worth a mint… Sad…

There is a guy in Niagara County that has a few Boss Mustangs just sitting on his front lawn rotting… :frowning:

not recently I haven’t gone to my unlces in wisconson in like 5 years(no barn finds)

the funny thing is it is not rotting, its on cynder blocks in a relatively dry location, its been that way for what I recall to be 15 years, its has like 50K on it to.

Down here I know of a nomad, a 71 cutless vert and i think a comet(or fords counter part I can’t recall off the top of my head)

I agree that the TGP is a rare-er (if that is even a word) car. The S4 on the other hand I don’t see as being rare.
