What's That Chasis Stiffening Stuff? + LED Lights

I remember back in 2003/2004 seeing a shop in Tochigi (forget the name) drilling holes around the door frames and pitting in this white stuff that expanded inside and stiffenend the shit out of the car. Apparently it is quite a popular thing to do in J-land and is piss cheap. Anyone know what that stuff is called?

I know I am batting out to left field on this one: has anyone done any LED taillight conversions on their cars, namely S14 kouki’s? I know it’s the most balling shit on s13’s, but I have never really seen it done on a kouki. I am thinking about doing it up when I put my car in storage; perhaps converting almost all of my lights over to LED for the balling JDMness.

If anyone knows any places that could get the Origin Labs luxury mirrors that would be sick!

chassis foam… it has different weight/density … no its not the same crap from home depot/home hardware. Freshalloy:

No I dont know where to get it locally…

I have no idea why you would even begin to assume that I would even consider Home Depot shit in my car when I only knew what the stuff was in a Japanese tuning context and saw the write up on a forum based out of Japan, with the work performed in a Japanese performance shop 5-6 years ago. Why on Earth would you even assume that, or spout an inflammatory remark like that. Home Depot was not even a thought.

No wonder you have a thread in the drams section. Thanful for the link, just leave the bs at the door.

he stating that is not he same thing as home depo stuff, because people have seen this stuff and then run to h.d and buy the foam and think its the same shit.

give people the benifit of the doubt, before you flame

woah man, calm down. be a lil’ nicer else ppl will think twice about helping you out next time…

Yeah really calm down. I don’t see how you could take what he said and think he’s making all kinds of negative assumptions about you.

Yeah, it just felt a bit condescending and I jumped the gun. My apologies.

Back on topic. As far as the LED lights go for Kouki’s, I can’t seem to find any cars with the tails done and examples posted on Zilvia, ZT, etc. I just wanted to see how it looks when illuminated, since IMO, I feel that the kouki tails aren’t as suiting as the tails on S13’s. I am hoping an example will prove me wrong.

If you use the crap from Home Depot expect your chassis to be trash within a year or two. It absorbs moisture and rots the chassis from the inside out. Just cage the car and do proper gussets. You will NEVER feel the difference using chassis foam.

Uh you jumped me like an ass when obviously I went out of my way to find the exact thread for you.

Why would I mention home depot? Because that’s the first thing people jump for when trying to get this stuff. Maybe you know, maybe you don’t, it’s mentioned in the original thread as well as that was one of the first things people wanted to go for. I give you the benefit of the doubt but I stated facts so you don’t fuck up.

People think hardening foam and voila, they go for anything when in fact there are so many different variations, compounds, chemicals with varrying degrees of results as well as application.

What you probably read are either Mike Kojima’s 300zx build up where he also uses all SPL arms and talks about the many aspects of chassis and suspension tuning… or maybe the same article I read maybe 4-5+ years ago as well about the opera based s2000 and 350z where they cheezed up the chassis, braced it including subframes, and foam filled.

Read the freshalloy thread as well as the rigidity pipe test for some interesting bits.

I stated the facts and went out of the way to find you the information, dont be a typical son240 bitch and pick a fight with me for random reasons .

ya

Not sure if this is moded on top of the original car and its just a video game but lol it handles and brakes amazing, this would be an interesting car to see on mosport.

I wish Id find real life videos of the opera s2000… my kinda car… insane chasiss and suspension + lightweight = awesome.

It ran a 1:01 on tsukuba (real life duh) with pretty much stock engine btw… which is amazing. I wana do that with my KA alone LOL jk. Compared to the stock car it lost like 800lbs (RIDICULOUS), around 2000lbs… not sure if it was wet or dry weight or whatever… my car weighs in at 2300lbs~ with more than half a tank and no cage still… so just to put things into perspective… the opera performance s2000 car is INSANE!

Sorry to sort of take it off topic but since i already mentioned it… this is a ridiculous car, their craftsmanship is just out of this world.

Ridiculously awesome x1000, theyve braced, chamfered, cheezed up/gusseted, foam filled strategically almost the whole car entirely
