Whats this Unit?

Alright, after about 3 hours of my life wasted by google, yahoo, altavista to name a few…

What the heck is the unit known as “PS” equal to in normal units like HP or kW…

I know its a Unit for power, and the japanese use it, but i cant find a converter or any information on it…

Help…

I googled and found “pferdestärke”.

1 PS = 0.9863201652997627 hp

I knew i shouldnt have been distracted by my need to find a decent turbo for my set up, thanks and i admit i’m an idiot who cant find stuff…

Thanks…

That literally means “horsepower” in German. All of the european countries measure their vehicles power in PS. I think North America are the only ones using HP.

I wonder how europe and america wound up with two different values for the same measurement. Different horse? :stuck_out_tongue:

B-Wurm

It sounded “tougher”

Maybe we should use PS instead of HP… or at least kW… those sound cooler… except maybe the kW… then it sounds like an eletric car…

Kinda like Imperial and Metric?

Metric was based on a base 10 system… intervals that are directly related to 10 of a unit of 10 of 10 of a unit… etc…

Imperial, lets just say that barely has any directly related intervals…

Look up the British unit of Slug, 14.59390 kilograms… i swear they just make them up…

heh, we should make up a unit… for power…

They did, literally, just make them up  Mostly old King’s, if you read the history books.

How about ninja power? Can’t beat that for cool.

The funny thing is that originally horsepower was taken from small horses used in mines. So a large horse like a clydesdale actually makes well over one HP. It was originally used as a measurement for trains.

It was an english gray horse, if I remember my auto history correctly. I believe the actual defenition of one horsepower was the amount of work one english gray horse could do in a single day. Silly Brits. :E

EDIT: Nevermind, that turns out not to be the actual history of the horsepower. It does however make for a good story.

what is the equasion for kw to hp??? Damn ausies! I never quite got the exact amount.
