I just got picked up to teach a 1 week ice hockey goalie camp in Brainerd, MN from June 29-July 6. I’ve been a goalie coach for about a year now, and figured the opportunity would be something good to add to my repertoire.
We’re only working for about 5-6 hours a day, the rest of the time is leisure. I remember this being a beautiful area (my sister played college for St. Cloud so I visited her a few times). Anyone familiar with the area that could maybe tell me a few things about it, some suggestions for things to do in my free time?
I grew up in Minneapolis, and the family has a cabin about 45 minutes from Brainerd. I only have a few minutes here to type…so I won’t be too much help.
Off the top of my head:
*LAKES, LAKES, LAKES!!! Plenty of water sports going on…and fishing.
*Forests, lots of green
*Brainerd International Raceway. Big time 1/4 track with some road course as well.
*People are great up there, there’s a term known as ‘Minnesota nice’. You’ll know what that means after being there for a few days.
Honestly, the greatest part about Northern Minnesota is just being outside enjoying nature.
Bring mosquito spray…
If you’re there for the 4th you should have no trouble finding a nice firework show nearby.
Enjoy! I’m jealous as I was really hoping to get back home for the 4th but as of right now it aint happening:(
