Wheel offsets?

Don’t mean to sound Noob or nothing but could someone explain offsets to me? I read about it all the time but I don’t know anything about it.

Offset is the distance that the hub sits from the centre of the wheel.

You typically see high offsets on fwd hondas and the like, and low offsets on rwd cars with a wider stance. A lower offset will make the wheel stick out more, where as a high offset will make the wheel be “inside” the car more. Every car need different offset wheels in order to clear fenders/suspension components etc.

Cool great explanation thanks!

agreed …

most I ever had on a 180sx with stock fenders was a 18x10 with +48 offset … was flush to the suspension and the outer fender lip …I dont think you could fit a 11 if you wanted to without a flare or massive fender roll

(s13)10" Wide with 35mm will rub on your rear strut if you run 255 tires.

i lied… heres mine. 17x9 35mm offset

there are still tons of room for wider wheel.
