Wheels/Tires options for the Jeep

Looking at options for my JKU. I am thinking of going with 33’s. I need something that won’t drive me crazy daily-ing it but can still perform well off roading or on the dunes. My top pick right now are Goodyear Duratrac 285/70-17. Based on review they seem to strike a decent balance. Anyone have experience with these or suggest something else?

Also, adding about 18 lbs of unsprung weight with just tires, figure wheels might make up 3 or 4 of that but still ~15 lbs, should I be looking at brake improvements?

Regarding wheel looking for any suggestions since I haven’t fallen in love with any yet. Looking for a black or dark wheel. Options I have looked at:

Lastly regarding lift I will probably go with a TeraFlex 1.5" Spring Leveling Kit and maybe pick up a set of rubi shocks.

You can get that 33" tire on a 15" wheel without a lift, that’s what I did with mine. Tires are a lot cheaper too.

I have 265/60 r18 BFG rugged terrains on my grand cherokee… I thought they were an okay balance going in…now I wish I hadn’t…they are unbelievably loud on some road surfaces

Yeah I might go the smaller rim route. More tire.

Here are 33x12.50x15 with the lift I am looking at:

Or maybe the 285/75R16 which would only be 11" wide and still 33". 12.5" might stick out more than I want.

I have very similar wheels to that first one on my Ranger.

You will like the small amount the tire sticks out past the fenders. It doesn’t interfere with driving at all and gives the jeep great stance. I can’t tell you how many compliments I got on that wheel and tire combo.
