Fine, “wheel design” instead of “spoke design” which now includes pad thickness. Still no offset in the mix.
This has been such a pointless argument…
Well if pad thickness is part of wheel design, because pad thickness changes offset in some cases… that would mean that offset is intuitively part of wheel design…
Therefore if brake clearence is dependant on wheel design then it is also dependant on offset.
IE. If a 20mm offset wheel of some type will no fit z brakes, but a 10mm offset on the same wheel by changing pad thickness will fit brakes, then as you can see depending on the wheels, the offset can be very important to your purchase especially if you are trying to clear brakes…
Does anyone else see the problem here?
This cant be explained by one or two words, because there are too many variables, too many wheel manufacturers, and too much theory mixed with misinformation.
Forget arguing, because honestly, you aren’t going to convince anyone different, because as you can see, you can apply the offset trick to 2 different types of wheels and get 2 totally different results.
For lack of a better word, there isn’t a control, in this theoretical experiment and so everyone invisions something completely different which nets different results.
I know… thats part 2 of my point…

pfff, your both wrong.
but phil is wronger
i r wonger?
The thread is about low offset old school rims that clear Z brakes, not spoke design, backspacing or offset.
Although I STILL think offset plays a part in it regardless of how many of you will argue it with me.
haha “wonger”
me = yapper lol.
we are all right.
and bings wrong.
and phils of teh gay.
