Who sells it around here? Is Irish welding supplies the only place? Im going to remove some sound deadening and want to get some today.
Irish
Kind of OT, but why do welding supply places carry dry ice?
Im pretty sure it is because they need to cool parts when welding so they dont warp/break. I know my buddy uses it in his machine shop when drilling so that it doesnt warp the product.
lots of uses.
can dump a shitload in tanks/barrels/fuel tanks so you can weld directly on to them and not blow your ass up.
Or to dissolve it in acetone (like acetelyne in acetone), then use it on metal parts to shrink them to help them fit in to something… Mainly useful on stuff that you can’t use heat to expand the female part of it. (outside part)
Or for the opposite, taking something out of a tight fit, when just heating the female part won’t do.
just might not want to use acetone when a part is hot though. :]
Those are the main uses…
mostly the fuel tank one from what I’ve seen.
or you can just use an old fire extinguisher and fire it off in to the fuel tank and you’re good to go.
and yea, I mean weld directly on the gas tank.
yay.
or just good to use if you’re welding near it for saftey :]
It’s not a hot seller, but they sell it because they have massive quantities of liquid CO2 on hand ( they use it for industrial gas mixtures and so forth) and that’s all the stuff is. Alot of shops sell “CO2 snow”, and that’s exactly what it looks like, snow. They spray it out of a tank of liquid CO2, when it hits the air, it turns into “snow”, with the same properties of dry ice. It’s suuuuper cheap too.
or you can use dry ice to pull dents from cars, not sure how big a dent or ding it will do, but i have done the dry ice trick on a car a time or 2, and pulled what otherwise would have been 100 dollars plus at a dent wizard, out for only the 10 dollars for the ice.
Ugh I hope Irish is open on the weekend, its hard to get over there during the week
Buffalo Welding Supply has it too. AFIAK they’re open on Saturdays
Called Buffalo Welding, they do not carry it anymore. Irish is the only place, and they are open 8-12 on Saturdays so I am in luck.
Most grocery stores around here carry it, try that.
Well I got it at Irish, and it didnt help one bit in removing the material in my car. I let it sit for 30 45 mins and it barely came off. Guess the trick only works on some cars.
That trick only works on tar based insulation… A lot more cars have a differant kind
I believe it was tar based, when I heat it up with the heat gun it smells like I am putting down new asphalt in the garage.
Oh, then i have no idea…
Why not try liquid nitrogen instead of Dry ice… I bet that the liquid nitrogen will freeze the stuff more efficiently…
