I have a 91 Camaro RS with a 305 TPI and I’m getting ready to swap a T5 tranny but I can’t figure out which starter to buy. I have Edelbrock headers so I’m looking for a mini starter that my headers won’t fry. Since I put the headers on I killed 3 starters. I want something that will hold up and be out of the way. Any suggestions?
Have you tried to heat shield the starter from the pipes? The degree of heat shielding may be more important than the starter that you choose.
www.summitracing.com lists 5 different “starter heat shields” on their site. Looking at the pictures, it appears that it might be less expensive to fab something up yourself. Since the shields listed are simple metal, my instinct would be to add some insulation material to the metal for a better barrier.
