pace performance

anyone get discounts on crate engines from pace or summit? I was thinking about 250 or 290 horse 350 for my SS. Possibly over the winter sometime. the reason i’d only get the 250 or 290 horse engine is:

  1. my car is a t-top, I don’t want the fucker ripping apart with lost of tourque, the things flexes enough as it is.
  2. I don’t wanna have to beef up the tranny to handle 400 plus hp, same with the rear.
  3. cost
  4. The 350 HO motor and beyond use center bolt vavle covers and i already have nice expensive vavlve covers for 85 and prior heads.

check w/ brian ! he hooked my dad up BIGTIME on his zz454

get a 87-88and up 350 shortblock, then buy the vortec heads. i say this because you can easily drop in a roller cam using all oem piecs on these blocks or they also can use regular flat tappet cams. short blocks can be had for 7-800 i think, and the vortec heads are around 500-600pr new
this is my setup in my truck

they make adapters to use old style covers on center bolt covers.

how much u looking to spend on a crate motor?

the 290 is listed at aprx $1,700 and the 250 @ $1,400. obviously thats in my range. I already have a few hundred into the carb and intake (performer RPM) and that would be a reason why i wouldn’t switch to vortech heads. I don’t want a crap load of power just something nicer to cruise without worn valve seals. I thought about gettin one done but even my dad’s engine guy said crate engines are a good bargin. It would be nice to have something backed by a warrenty for once. looking at the specs i think the 250 hp had a half a point higher compression and the only other difference between the two was the cam in the 290, i could buy a cam for less than the difference of the two and have just as big if not a more agressive cam.

call me

carb an LT1. should drop right in with no issues

LT1 suck

warranty only applies if the engine is oem replacement, meaning replacing your 305 with a 350 will void the crate motor warranty unless you know someone with a 350 truck

not any more

false , there are two warrentys, i think if you don’t put it in as an OEM replacement you still get a 12k limited warrenty

fixed one problem and got the son of a bitch running a lil better, choke fuse was blown  car was runnin on two barrels. Bri, i’ll give ya a ring when my bonus money comes in, these mother fuckers are bein stingy with my dough.

Cutty I ran the fast burn 385 and install the hot cam, not twisting problems here as for a cheap motor, I have a manager/friend at Summit I can get his massive discount let me know!

like i said its not just the twisting its all the other crap like the weak ass 7.5. I’ll let you know as well when its time for one.
