if i end up rebuilding my b16 in my 99 si ive been thinking about putting my greddy turbo kit on it and running 8-10 psi. so i was wondering in theres anyone in ny thats good at tuning emanage sence its my daily. and the reason im going to run emange is so i can pass emission. so let know thanks.
Synapse.
really i didnt know they did emanage its good to know thanks
I would assume they can tune any piggyback given they can do full management systems. Give them a ring. Morgan is a good guy.
thanks ill have to give them a call
Good luck.
Yeah I think ive talked with Morgan in the past about emanages. But Emanage and other similar piggy backs are pretty simplistic. Any tuner should be able to mange tuning with them. They arent great but they get the job done for some minor tuning
Piggybacks have seen 8s in various platforms.
yes but they are not my choise as a permanent solution
synapse doesnt tune Emanage on turbo hondas. you can always convert back to stock for emissions or scan another 99-00 honda civic, why run a subpar EMS? when you keep the stock ecu in place it is always adapting and changing its values trying to target values of an n/a b16. sure on a lightly modified n/a setup its ok, or an already turbo setup where the ecu already has mapping for more boost but on an turbo b series it is not the safest bet.
Ah. I gues they don’t turn E-Manage…
not worth tuning a car when there are factors not in your control that will affect the drivability and reliability, especially when there are obvious other choices that are better and offer no drawbacks.
I am sure others will take the business.
Synapse has tuned hundreds of boosted Hondas. They know what works and what doesn’t. You can get your emange tuned and be disappointed with it ,then shop for a real ems and have it retuned or just do it the right way to start.
I can probably find you someone in NYC (Maxima community) than can tune the EManage. Let me know if Synapse doesn’t work out for ya. EManage is used quite often on our platform.
A lot of platforms actually.
It’s weird to see a business turn down revenue with comments such as the “right way” :crazy
I always say one good job will bring you two more, one bad will lose you ten. I see nothing wrong with Morgans decision to not tune piggyback systems and possibly risk his tuning reputation on a something that could go south quick(due to hardware, not personal capabilities), ESPECIALLY when considering his expertise in the said field.
The “right way” is merely a statement for ones personal standing on what the minimal requirements are to what you do for your business. I have mine in my business, why should any other shop not have theirs? Shops and their respectful owners have different work ethics and standards and you eventually cross a line where the small profit(if any) is negligible in comparison to the negativity that surrounds the issue if it turns bad.
Smart move in my opinion.
Understood. However, if the application works for the platform then what is the problem? I guess I should have been clear when I said that personal bias (i.e. I think this works better than that; you are doing it the wrong way) shouldn’t come into play. Again, there might be something weird with E-Manage that doesn’t work with Hondas but does with other platforms. No idea.
I see it both ways. There are some products I won’t sell any more but If someone wants something and I think there is a far better product or way to go I will advise that if they choose thats what the want then they are advise unwanted future results are on the decision they made. In regards to hondas in particular there are plenty of other units better then a piggy back available esp. the e-manage. The e-manage is a good piggy back but there are many other honda specific products that are just as inexpensive or cheaper that can do it all. I believe the OP is taking about a Greddy Turbo Kit which I believe may or may not come with a pretuned emanage as some of greddy’s kits do. Piggybacks work well but for the record i prefer full engine control. I dont really agree with the way SDP’s comment was posted but i dont think he meant to come off like a dick.
obviously if morgan is willing to turn down money when he owns a 60 thousand dollar dyno that he bought specifically to tune cars he must be doing it for a good reason. He has used it before and was not happy with the results on certain setups. unlike some businesses he actually cares about the quality of product that leaves the shop and customer satisfaction, and not just getting a quick buck.
the problem is that you have an uncontrollable variable in the tune, the stock ECU. think of the stock ECU as a base and the emanage map is built on stop of that, so when the ECU starts adapting to the turbo setup your whole map changes. a honda ECU has no mapping at all for positive pressure so when you run a turbo setup you have to put a check valve before the map sensor. so when you are at 10psi the stock ECU thinks you are at WOT N/A and if it doesnt see AFR values that coincide with that it will try to make it happen.
