( low n behold I bought a vmax yesterday ;))
what year ??

Owning a Harley is a lot more than just another bike. You wouldn’t understand unless you’ve owned one, it’s an American tradition. Another good thing is they hold their value like no other bikes, you can buy a twin cam or evolution and sell it 3 years later for what you paid.
Meh, Everything depreciates… Harleys are not excluded… see sportster 8k 2 years old for 4500… or FLH for 19k, 2 years later for 12k…
The secret to buying something with the intent to not lose money is buy it a year or 2 old with the factory warranty extended. The most I’ve ever lost on a bike was less than 300 bucks and thats after 4 years of abuse. None of them were harleys…
As the saying goes, “you make money when you buy stuff, not when you sell it”
That being said, theres a good chance I’m going to end up with an old ironhead sportster at some stage in my life… or an FLH if i decide I like traveling via bike. But for now, I still with a higher horsepower japanese variant.
Sportsters are an exception. FL’s depreciate because people want the 103ci or the newer wider frame, better suspension but when it comes to the fx’s they hold damn good. When’s the last time you’ve seen a twin cam Heritage sell for under 10k? Never. I respect all bikes and riders but I love H-D, nothing compares. The Dyna Street Bob is one of the best bikes you can possibly buy and they aren’t very expensive.
I know a guy that is selling an iron for CHEAP if interested. Very good condition and he’s looking for $2000. Can’t go wrong.
Yes hp wise the jappers take the lead but there’s more to riding than “hp” numbers. Trust me if there were more tracks around I’d have a CBR1000RR but for the street, not necessary.
I feel the opposite… 1000 for street and strip… 600 for track. No need for me to have more than probably 50 hp on a track… but certainly not 150. (Drag is the exception there, I feel right at home on anything I’ve ever dragged in stock wheelbase form)
What are the specs on the ironhead? I’m looking to go rigid i think… I’m still toying with this vmax and buying this dumb house
I can get all the details from him Tuesday when I go back to work, PM me your number or an email address and I’ll let you know for sure. He wants a new FLHX but has to sell the iron first for a down payment. All I know is it’s clean, the owner is as anal as it gets with his bikes, it’s definitely been maintained correctly by our shop. We keep all service records and we do free look overs for potential Harley buyers from private sellers so your mind can be at ease or we can turn you away from a potential nightmare if needed.

I agree about a 1000 being overkill, a 600 is ideal for a track bike for the handling but the newer CBR1000’s have amazing frames and suspension. They are actually smaller frames than my old R6 was, super easy to throw around corners.
Come to my side and get an ironhead. There’s a small chance I’ll have it at biketober fest this year, depends on where my priorities for fixing things end up. I’m in the exact opposite boat as you, I’ve only ridden Harley products and have never even sat on a japanese motorcycle.
Hey nice XB! Best sportbike ever made IMO
I ran my SMR a few times at lancaster. My best was 7.5 or 7.3. I had the launch control on the forks and slicks, drag the front brake a little and bang up gears.
And with this thread I’m extending my swingarm … 20mm
Haha, please don’t be that guy
20mm = .8 inches
It was a change Yamaha did on R1s for better power wheelie control, more weight on the front wheel for turn in.
Wheelie control… my right hand does that.
We had a turbo VRod come in today, forgot my camera so I couldn’t take a picture but you get the point. Sick as hell.
