considering the number of people who seam to want to build exhausts or turbo piping kits this year, i figured i would post this up
ive suggested to a number of people so far, that the cheapest place i know for mandrel bends is JC Whitney, and that if a number of people got together to place an order from them, the shipping would be next to nothing, and it would be easy to upgrade the type of shipping for very little $ per person
but that being said, i would much rather see a local place get the profits instead.
JC Whitney bends are okay, but I would get something of better quality. Where you can pick different bend radius and get different guage if you need it
We can get a bunch of different bends and most can be had within a day or two. We use mostly 90 degree u bends that have a 45 on them as well. Stainless. These work nice, if people were interested in putting together a buy I would be more than willing to see what i can do for everyone on price.
while i would love to work with stainless for the stuff people want me to do, im not set up for it on my mig, and i hear its a bitch to weld when your usin a mig welder
plus for intercooler piping, since theres little heat involved, painted steel works good enough
Agreed for intercooler piping mild steel or aluminum works best. Plus stainless pipe is heavy and if you don’t need it why use it. I can have Jet-Hot coat mild steel pipe and it still ends up being cheaper than stainless
Personally i never have any use for the 45 degree tail on those bends. I’m more of a U bend kinda person, course those doughnuts are cool also, but i’ve never used them.
It has been in our experience that mild steel will rust on the inside from condensation of water vapor over time. This is why we no longer prefer to do intercooler piping in mild. Who wants that in their engine? :gotme:
I dont know exact pricing but i dont think jethot will coat the inside of the pipe.
If people are interested we will help with the group buy since we have many good suppliers for this stuff, however if there is no interest that is fine. You know where to find us.
i have a hookup at general welding and will be going there for manifold parts and hopefully some mandrels saturday. if anyone wants me to grab them anything i can find out if they got it and grab it then let ya know the price, they are going to be cheap too trust me
Jet-Hot coats everything inside & out. That is what their price includes. Pipe is priced by diameter and linear ft. That is why I said Jet-Hot inside/out coated mild steel is lighter and still cheaper than stainless steel. Plus is blocks heat from being transmitted into or out of the pipe
