Who on here rides? & what kind of machine do you have?

i’m gonna add my 2cents here. my uncle had the 97 cr250. i rode it, and my 96 rm 250 was way faster, no lie! there was no hit on that honda just a long smooth powerband and i felt cramped on it. i have ridden the yamaha yz400f when it came out, the 01 and 02 yz 250. they all felt small. the only bike that fits me size wise is the rm’s although the kx doesn’t feel to bad, but i wouldn’t want one.

I still see Jimmy from time to time…he actually has a pretty mean hatchback now…it is a high compression B20/vtec with a bottle

my friend had a 95 RM…big issues with reliablity but that motor was sick

fucking werd. You cant diss on Honda for having to tinker with the aluminum frame a bit. No one had ever done it before but it was a great step forward. And with the uber rigid frame that you dont really know how will react, its tough to get the suspension dead on. I never really raced, mostly just jumping so I didnt car all that much about handling. I just loved the rocket or a motor.

And Eurodad - that CR must have not been in that tip top of shape. My 97 CR roasted the shit out of Taco’s 01 RM250. Unless the 96RM was a freak or something.

i’ve had many rm’s and they have always been reliable. 79rm80,84rm80,85rm80, mike jone’s 91rm125, mike jones 92rm125, 2-96rm250’s(1 had a 295 kit), 01 rm250 with 265 kit.

thats wierd, eurodad. i’ve never heard of anyone saying anything bad about those CR motors. maybe it wasn’t dialed in right. also, i heard that those bikes went through reeds pretty quick, maybe the one u rode needed new reeds or something. take bics’ for a ride this summer, its super fast.

it was set up for the woods, super plush suspension, weighted flywheel which smoothed it out, but there is no way it was faster than a stock rm. Honda’s may be a good bike, but i don’t like them.

that thing had to had a beat top end or just not maintained how it should be. A stock 95-97 CR SHOULD be a bit faster than a 96 RM. That CR engine is well known to be one of the best motors of all time(many argue THE best). I rode a 98 YZ with a ton of work into it (head, pipe, ect.0 had to run on race gas and my CR would dominate it. I never rode a 96 RM but I did here, I think 98 KX is one sick ass motor as well.

Ya, that 98 YZ engine wasnt all that impressive, even modded. 99 was a huge upgrade. i dont think RM 250 were known for having monster engines until 01 (especially 03 and up). the 98 KX engine is badass. that and the 01 and 05. by the way, Eurodad, did your 96 Rms have that crazy whirling sound from the internal water pump? seems those things always sounded so weird.

I Used to ride a 98 RM250 fairly often… wasn’t mine, but my cousin was scared to death of it (had it only for sentimental reasons) so i’ve put 95% of its riding time on it… and 4.999993% of his 5% came runnign it up the road… i know he’s looking to sell it… practically brand new engine… was in a fatal accident in '00. had the engine completely redone and new forks, etc. put on it… all it needs is plastics and its in perfect shape… FMF fatty pipe that doesnt even have one teeny tiny dent (still good and chrome) and a FMF silencer. great bike… lots of fun, very fast.

dont ride it anymore tho b/c i dont have the time, nor the access to get to it anymore…

And if anyone is interested, i also know someoen looking to get rid of a '01 YZ250… has maybe 5 hours on it max… forks and suspension were torn off and sent to pro circuit for w/e they did w/ it (can’t quite remember), LOADS of carbon fiber accessories… pro circuit pipe and silencer, and balls of other stuff… lemme know if you’re interested, i’ll give you a contact number for either bike…

I also took a few rides on a KX250 once that was setup to run like hell… i know a kid that races for the Kawasaki shop in Indiana… they had his bike setup w/ the EXACT setup Ezra Lusk ran at Steel City (this was like 2 years ago)… unbelievable… it was an absolute blast

my 96 stock was faster than my 01 stock. my 96 with the 295 was a monster. not as abrupt as a 500 but just as fast. and yes smokey, the pump did make the noise. but the clutch i thought was loader. when i pulled the clutch lever in on my 96 and also on my 01 the motor is quieter. I still have my 96 295 cylinder. i think it fits from 96- 98

hmm. crazy. i always heard that those late 90s RM250s were turd motors. thats pretty sweet if it was that fast then.the coolest thing about 96 Rm 250s (besides the sound) was the conventional fork. i thought it wokred well (even though they supposedly flexed too much for pros) and the front plate looked sweet w/ the fork gaurds built in. i did alot of time on a 96 RM125 and loved it.

Sonofabish, i’ll keep an eye out on the bikes

i have a poster of a 96 rm250 i pulled outa dirt rider back when i was in highschool it’s been on my wall for 10 years

anyways here’s my ride with the new graphics:

KX looks very nice. is that a 86 CR125?

nevermind saw the other thread…i was close

yeah 85-87 i can’t see a difference but i never really looked into it much so there probably is. it’s suprisingly light for a bike of that year i thought

that bike was badass back in its day. i’d like to ride that thing just to feel how it runs. but i’d rather spin that KX u got. :bigok:

top end on the cr is being rebuilt right now we got it stripped to paint the frame( the orange is a little outdated) and i picked up a nice red plastic paint and sealer (for the gas tank) so she’s getting paitined too. next for today is metal throttle tube, new bar, and grips…i gotta rebuild the forks in the front since it seems to be filled with springs from the heads of an early 80’s chevy

Hey, I want to know who stole my bike without me knowing and lost a drag race to you. The only time I ever remember drag racing you was down in snyders field and I beleive I won more than I lost.
