Who should control the internet?

Pretty interesting write up about DNS control of the internet and how other countries are asking for more control.

A few other technical people might be able to make sense of this while others should just keep moving along to the CATURDAY thread

Opinions? I personally have always felt that even with our international involvement, there has not been any real issues or abuse of power of an internet domain of another country. I really believe that this is one of the few organizations by the US government that is actually running properly. Lol.

Mmmm… If I dint love the complexity of international law stories as is, this is 1000x juicier because it involves an entity that is already complicated as f***. The interweebbzzzz.

Even involved in Domain/Site hosting…I don’t care.

I didn’t read the article but I think the way they have it set up is running smooth. There are what… 12 root servers spread all over the world to help minimize issues with one sole control over the DNS infrastructure. I would think if there were massive issues with how things are running there would be a lot of problems with lower level name look ups that are being pushed and cached at the ISP level.

The US runz the internetz end of story

It’s a great asset to have under our control…I under stand the world point of view but it would be a mistake delegating control.

I also don’t see the government handing out any more control since the military NIPER/SIPER network runs over the internet at some points.

And look other countries have no idea what they are doing when it comes to the internetz http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2008/02/pakistans-accid/
